Chapter 1 - Prologue

'The God Born Hero'. It sounded like your generic hero novel, but it was completely different. The protagonist, Xue Wangli, was a noble man. Or as the others saw him anyway. At only the age of 21, he had become the people's light and hope against the relentless onslaught of monsters that had invaded Earth during early Winter.

Lin Huayin had been following this webnovel since his tenth grade. It followed him through the toughest exams, his university and now, he was approaching 23. It was his favorite story. Right now, he sat at his desk in his tiny apartment bedroom.

His pen flicked across the page, scribbling down the words. He was a literature major. Lin Huayin looked up from his papers and at the time. It was really late and he should probably sleep. Lin Huayin's mouth formed a line as he thought. Perhaps he should grab something to eat before he went to bed.

The man got up from his chair, stretching before going to his kitchen. He grabbed bread from the fridge and put it in the microwave as he poured himself a glass of water. Lin Huayin sat at the counter and ate, pulling out his phone.

TGBH had almost 6000 chapters and many readers dropped it before chapter 1000. There were very few that still read it. Tonight however, the epilogue was being updated. He promised himself to read it anyway.

Lin Huayin pulled up the webnovel and looked at the chapter count.

Chapter 5993.

Free in 10 minutes.

He made a muffled noise before he heard a faint crash outside his door. At this hour? Lin Huayin set down his glass and put his phone back into his pocket before going to the door to check out the commotion.

When he opened the door, he saw a woman on the ground, bleeding from her knee.

"Oh crap, are you alright?" He asked, approaching her and getting down on his knee to see if she was alright.

The woman nodded, her black hair covering a bit of her face at the movement. "I'm fine sir."

Her smile was warm and it made Lin Huayin feel at ease. He got up. "Hold up, let me get some bandages, you're bleeding."

She grabbed his wrist. "There's no need."

"Huh-" Lin Huayin felt a sharp tug and he stumbled back, gripping the railing. He lived on the 20th floor!

The woman pulled herself back up with a smile. "I'm thankful for your kindness, stranger."

Lin Huayin's brows furrowed, his heart beating. "What are you doing?"

She leaned in, her breath cold against his skin. Goosebumps ran down his spine.

"Making sure I repay you, of course."

Her face shifted into an unnerving smile. She leaned back against the railing, dragging Lin Huayin with her. Before he knew it, they were both falling. What?

The wind blew past his face as he saw the ground approaching at a rapid speed. No. He'd surely die!

"Thank you, kind stranger."

That woman was a maniac! He hit the ground with a thud and blacked out.

The television outside a store was on, playing the news.

"Good morning. Two bodies have been found outside one of Shanghai's apartments. One male and one female. Police are on the case, and it is assumed to have been a lover's suicide."

People walked past, paying no mind. Suicides weren't uncommon. Especially in China.
