Over the next twenty-four hours, the government plunged into a complete standstill.
Immediately following, a spectacular sight occurred for the very first time in history: without waiting for his term to expire, the President dismally announced his resignation under a barrage of condemnation, taking the blame for the fallout.
The most powerful country in the world, on this very day, welcomed a total vacuum of power.
...
New York, Queens, inside an ordinary residential house.
On the living room television, footage of the tearful President delivering his resignation speech was playing on a continuous loop. The news headlines were each more explosive than the last:
[A HISTORIC MOMENT: THE WHITE HOUSE FALLS, THE PRESIDENT RESIGNS IN DISGRACE!]
Uncle Ben and Aunt May sat on the sofa. Looking at the earth-shattering upheaval on the television, and then looking at their nephew nearby who was nonchalantly munching on an apple, their expressions were complex to the absolute point of saturation.
After a long while, Aunt May finally opened her mouth with a trace of helplessness:
"Peter... isn't this, isn't this commotion a little too big?"
Although she knew those politicians weren't anything good, directly bringing a nation's government down to its knees felt a bit absurd no matter how she thought about it.
Uncle Ben was similarly filled with anxiety. He pushed up his glasses and let out a long sigh.
"Son, I know what you did wasn't wrong. But given the current situation, how is this going to be wrapped up afterward? We can't just let the country remain in a chaotic mess like this forever, can we?"
Peter took a large bite out of his apple with a crisp crunch, speaking half-indistinctly:
"Rest assured, Uncle Ben, Aunt May. I know exactly what I'm doing."
He finished the apple in two or three bites, accurately tossing the core into a distant trash can. Then, he clapped his hands, a meaningful smile surfacing on his face.
"I think Uncle George and Uncle Norman are going to very much enjoy their new jobs."
...
With the stepping down of the former President, a new round of presidential elections was urgently placed onto the agenda at an unprecedented pace.
And right when everyone assumed it would be a chaotic free-for-all with no leader to guide them, a name that defied everyone's expectations materialized on the candidate list in an earth-shattering manner:
George Stacy.
This former New York Police Captain, with his consistently upright, incorruptible, and tough-guy image, instantly captured the attention of the entire nation. More importantly, the lineup of supporters backing him was luxurious to a borderline psychotic degree.
The Daily Bugle—the media outlet that used to smear Spider-Man daily—had now, under the leadership of J. Jonah Jameson, transformed into George Stacy's most faithful trumpet blower, waving flags and shouting praises for him twenty-four hours a day without interruption, painting him as the sole hope to make the country great again.
Stark Industries, Parker Tech, the Osborn Corporation... the Big Three tech companies of New York unified their public statements, announcing they would provide unlimited financial backing for Mr. George's campaign. That posture was just a step away from tossing dollar bills around like flyers.
And the heaviest bomb of all was that the Arbiter, Ghost-Spider, and Nightingale—these three superheroes—publicly declared that George Stacy was the most righteous politician they had ever met.
This single sentence was more effective than any political manifesto. The three superheroes who had just saved the world unanimously agreed that George Stacy was the prime candidate for the presidency, so what else was there left to say?
In a flash, George Stacy's approval rating resembled a boarding rocket, leaving all other potential competitors so far behind that they couldn't even see his dust.
In fact, not a single rival could even be spotted anymore. Whether it was a red state or a blue state, everyone's choice was surprisingly identical—George Stacy!
Everyone understood that there was no longer any suspense regarding the throne of the next presidency. It could be said that Peter, without shedding a single drop of blood, had delivered the supreme power of the entire country into the hands of the person he trusted most.
...
At the exact same time George was busy campaigning for the presidency, Peter didn't remain idle either.
After settling that gang of politicians in his own universe, he ultimately took a trip over to the Spider-Society, primarily to busy himself with two matters.
The first matter was to deliver his blessings to the newly appointed Master Weaver. It wasn't until the matters on his end concluded that Peter learned of this heavy piece of news through Spider-Punk and the others. It turned out that the Master Weaver was actually Karn from the future!
On the verge of death, the future Karn had actively used prophecy to guide his past self along this path.
When the young Karn arrived before him in the most liberated posture, the future version revealed the entire truth to his past self, handing this heavy responsibility back into Karn's hands.
However, the future Karn had similarly expressed that all of this shouldn't have happened so quickly. In the ending he had foreseen, "The Other,"
"The Bride," and "The Scion" were supposed to unite all the Little Spiders to take action together; only then would they be able to thoroughly resolve the massive trouble that was Solus.
But now, Peter's appearance had completely shattered the established plans and prophecies. Peter wasn't even "The Other," nor had he received the blessing of the Spider Totem. Even the future Karn had zero clue where this person had suddenly popped out from.
All he knew was that ever since Peter materialized, his arrangements began to collapse on a massive scale, yet in a bizarre twist, a perfect ending was reached—one that he could never have deduced no matter how he calculated.
It was precisely because of this that the future Karn dubbed Peter "The Man Who Reversed the Future."
Apart from this matter, the second thing was to help Superior Spider-Man—that is, Doctor Octopus—achieve a perfect resurrection.
Peter didn't know that in the original timeline, Superior Spider-Man had made a move against the future Karn, nor did he know where Doc Ock's future would ultimately lead.
He only knew that under his previous lessons, this Doc Ock fellow had already resolved to reform and turn over a new leaf.
Therefore, keeping his promise, after Doctor Octopus transferred his consciousness into his clone body, Peter utilized the Horse Talisman to help him heal the psychological damage caused by the artificial intelligence mechanical arms.
Peter, having finished busying himself with these two matters, had barely set foot back into his own universe when his phone rang in close succession. The caller ID displayed "Daisy"!
If there was one person who felt extremely dissatisfied with Peter's recent operations, that person was definitely Daisy.
Ever since Peter had painted that massive grand pie of "I will help you awaken the hidden power in your lineage" last time, this former super hacker had acted as if she had been injected with chicken blood, plunging headfirst into S.H.I.E.L.D.
to undergo an agent training regimen that was borderline draconian and psychotic all day long. She had consistently believed that as long as she became strong and excellent enough, she would be able to help Peter out and stand by his side.
But this time, a crisis capable of destroying the world had descended, yet Peter hadn't contacted her from start to finish, completely excluding her from the picture.
This caused Daisy to experience a violent, unprecedented sense of insecurity and frustration. She urgently wanted to see Peter, wanting an explanation, or rather, a reassuring answer.
Looking at the phone that refused to stop ringing, Peter couldn't resist letting out a long, deep sigh. He had indeed neglected that little girl a bit too much recently.
Just as Peter prepared to swipe to answer the call, the living room door was pushed open. Immediately following, three beautiful silhouettes barged in, one after another.
It was precisely Gwen, Felicia, and Sif!
The exact split second he took in these three individuals, the hand Peter was originally pressing toward the answer key instantly shifted horizontally, hitting the button on the opposite side to reject it.
Daisy's side could still be stalled for a bit longer, but as for the three ladies right in front of his eyes—there was absolutely no stalling them at all!
