Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Evolution

Chapter 6: Evolution

Everything slowed.

The creature was still in front of him.

Too close.

Too fast.

Too strong.

Kael couldn't dodge.

Couldn't block.

Couldn't survive—

[Skill Evolution Available]

The words stayed in front of him.

Clear.

Unavoidable.

Kael's thoughts sharpened.

"…do it," he said.

There was no hesitation.

[Shadow Bind → Shadow Grasp]

Something changed.

Not outside—

Inside.

The shadows around him reacted instantly.

They didn't just move.

They surged.

Thicker.

Darker.

Heavier.

Kael felt it clearly this time.

Control.

Not partial.

Not unstable.

Complete.

The creature lunged.

But Kael didn't move.

Not his body.

Just his hand.

"Grasp."

The shadows exploded upward.

Not thin strands like before—

Solid.

Dense.

They wrapped around the creature mid-air.

Not just its limbs—

Its entire body.

The impact never reached him.

The creature stopped.

Frozen in place.

Its body strained violently.

Muscles tensed.

It tried to break free—

But couldn't.

Kael's eyes widened slightly.

"…so this is the difference."

Before, he was slowing things down.

Now—

He was stopping them.

The creature let out a deep, distorted roar.

Its strength pushed against the shadows.

Kael felt it.

The resistance.

Heavy.

Powerful.

But not enough.

"Stay," he said quietly.

The shadows tightened.

The creature's movements slowed further.

Its limbs trembled.

Its body strained—

But it couldn't move forward.

For the first time—

Kael had control.

Complete control.

He stepped forward.

Slow.

Steady.

Each step hurt.

But it didn't matter anymore.

The creature's glowing eyes locked onto him.

Still aggressive.

Still dangerous.

But trapped.

"…you were strong," Kael said.

His voice was calm now.

Not rushed.

Not uncertain.

Just clear.

"But not enough."

He reached the creature.

Close enough to see its full shape.

Its body was rough, uneven, built for strength.

Its jaws opened slightly, trying to reach him—

But the shadows held firm.

Kael picked up a jagged piece of stone from the ground.

He didn't rush.

Didn't hesitate.

And drove it forward—

Straight into its eye.

The creature roared.

Its body shook violently.

The shadows trembled slightly—

But held.

Kael pulled the stone out—

And struck again.

And again.

Each hit was precise.

Deliberate.

The creature's movements slowed.

Weakened.

Fading.

Until—

They stopped.

Silence returned.

Kael stood there for a moment.

Breathing steady.

Watching.

Waiting.

Then—

[Target Eliminated]

The voice echoed again.

Clear.

Cold.

[Shadow Points +30]

Kael exhaled slowly.

"…thirty."

More than before.

A lot more.

That confirmed it.

Stronger enemies meant faster growth.

But also—

Greater risk.

He looked at the creature's body.

Then at his hand.

The shadows were still there.

Calm.

Controlled.

Waiting.

"…Shadow Grasp," he said quietly.

They responded immediately.

Smoother than before.

No delay.

No hesitation.

Kael nodded slightly.

"…better."

Not just stronger.

More reliable.

That mattered more.

He released the skill.

The shadows returned to their normal state.

But the feeling remained.

That connection.

Clearer now.

Easier to reach.

Kael looked into the darkness ahead.

The Abyss stretched endlessly.

Still dangerous.

Still unknown.

But different.

Before—

He had felt like he didn't belong here.

Now—

It felt like the opposite.

Like this place was meant for him.

"…I can survive," he said.

Not confidently.

Not arrogantly.

Just as a fact.

Then—

A sound echoed.

Deeper than before.

Heavier.

Slower.

But far more intense.

Kael's expression shifted.

The shadows around him reacted instantly.

Not calm this time.

Tense.

Uneasy.

Kael narrowed his eyes.

"…something else."

This wasn't like the creature he just fought.

Not even close.

The sound came again.

Closer.

The ground vibrated slightly with each movement.

Kael didn't move.

Didn't run.

But he didn't step forward either.

Not yet.

"…not ready," he said quietly.

Even with Shadow Grasp—

This felt different.

Stronger.

Far stronger.

The shadows flickered around him.

As if warning him.

Kael turned slightly.

Looking into the direction he came from.

Then back into the deeper darkness.

Two paths.

Forward—

Or survive longer.

He made his choice.

"…not yet."

Kael stepped back.

Slowly.

Carefully.

He wasn't running.

He was learning.

Because now he understood something clearly.

This wasn't just about fighting.

It was about growing.

Step by step.

Or dying.

Far in the darkness—

Something watched him.

Not with hunger.

Not like the others.

With interest.
