CHAPTER 76: JEALOUS HEARTS
Camille does not leave the building.
She stays in the executive lounge for almost half an hour after the board meeting ends, her presence reported back to me in three separate messages from three separate people before I have even made it to the elevator, which tells me everything I need to know about how quickly a single photograph can move through a building full of people who were already looking for a reason to talk.
By the time I reach the lobby, the rumors have outpaced the truth entirely.
"They're saying you two argued," Marcus says, reading from his phone as we walk to the car. "They're saying she demanded Dominic's old office be reopened. They're saying she's filing some kind of claim against the Voss estate." He glances at me. "None of that happened in the room I was sitting in."
"It doesn't matter what happened in the room," I say. "It matters what gets repeated outside it."
