Chapter 77: THE GALA
The invitation arrives three days after Camille's theft is discovered, hand delivered to the safehouse by a courier who has no idea what he's carrying or who he's carrying it to.
It is for the Herald Children's Foundation gala, an annual event so deeply embedded in the city's billionaire calendar that not attending is its own kind of statement. Voss Industries has sponsored a table every year for over a decade. This year, the seating chart already has my name on it, printed in elegant script beside a chair that has been reserved, according to the small card tucked inside the envelope, for over six months.
Dominic reserved it before any of this happened.
"You don't have to go," Marcus says, watching me read the card for the third time at the kitchen table. "Nobody would blame you for sitting this one out, given everything happening with the board and Camille's theft and the entire mess in the press."
