Chapter 195 - Chapter 195: Reaching Toward Reality

The underground city screamed.

Ancient towers collapsed throughout the prison while rivers of glowing crystal burst from shattered channels and flooded entire districts. The abyss continued widening beneath the metropolis, devouring roads, bridges, and buildings that had survived for thousands of years. Every tremor felt stronger than the last. Every vibration carried the same terrifying message.

The prison was failing.

Far above the growing darkness, the First Son remained suspended in the air. Golden light radiated from his body like a miniature sun while countless ancient symbols revolved around him. The pressure pouring from the ancient being was enough to make reality tremble, yet his attention never wavered from the abyss below.

The thing beyond the Door was reaching toward reality.

And for the first time since his appearance, the First Son looked genuinely concerned.

The sight unsettled everyone.

Kael stood near the edge of the observation platform, watching the darkness beneath the city twist and churn like a living ocean. The black mark covering his arm had spread beyond his elbow now. Dark veins pulsed beneath his skin while fragments of forgotten memories continued surfacing within his mind.

The memories no longer felt distant.

They felt close.

Dangerously close.

Almost as though they belonged to him.

Aren noticed the spreading darkness immediately.

The boy stared for several seconds before rubbing both hands across his face.

"I have officially run out of optimistic interpretations."

Nobody responded.

Aren pointed toward Kael's arm.

"Before, I had maybe three."

He paused.

"Now I have none."

Despite everything happening around them, the comment almost managed to lighten the atmosphere.

Almost.

Then another tremor shook the city.

The observation platform cracked beneath their feet.

Several sections of stone broke away and vanished into the abyss below. Dust filled the air while distant districts collapsed one after another. Throughout the underground metropolis, countless citizens fled toward the remaining safe zones while the Dreamers continued kneeling in worship.

They were smiling.

Even now.

Even while the city died around them.

The sight felt deeply unsettling.

Lyra stepped beside Kael and followed his gaze toward the abyss.

"Can you hear it?"

Her voice was quiet.

Kael immediately knew what she meant.

The voice.

The thing beyond the Door.

The presence hidden beneath reality.

He remained silent for a moment.

Then nodded.

"I can."

The answer caused Lyra's expression to tighten.

Because she couldn't.

Nobody else could.

Only Kael.

The realization carried dangerous implications.

Theron looked toward him.

The old caretaker seemed exhausted beyond words.

His eyes lingered on the black mark before shifting toward the abyss once more.

"It shouldn't be able to speak to you."

Kael frowned.

"What does that mean?"

The old man hesitated.

For a moment, he appeared reluctant to answer.

Then he sighed.

"The things beyond the Door cannot normally communicate with our side of reality."

A pause followed.

"Not directly."

The city shook.

A distant tower collapsed into the darkness below.

Nobody looked away from Theron.

The old caretaker swallowed.

Then continued.

"The Door exists to separate two worlds."

The explanation immediately drew everyone's attention.

Even General Caelan remained focused on the old man.

Theron stared into the abyss.

"The Sleeper guards the Door."

A pause.

"The prison protects the Sleeper."

Another.

"And the Lock protects the prison."

Silence followed.

The chain of protection finally made sense.

The Door.

The Sleeper.

The prison.

The Lock.

Everything had been built around containment.

Everything.

The realization settled heavily over the group.

Then another voice echoed from the abyss.

This time everyone heard it.

The underground city froze.

The voice wasn't loud.

It wasn't threatening.

It sounded curious.

Like a child examining something interesting.

"I can see you."

The words echoed throughout the cavern.

Citizens screamed.

The Dreamers laughed.

The prison shook violently.

And the First Son's expression darkened immediately.

Golden light erupted around him.

The symbols surrounding his body ignited like stars.

For a brief moment, the entire underground city became illuminated.

The First Son raised one hand.

Then closed his fingers.

Reality shattered.

A wall of golden light appeared above the abyss.

The structure stretched across the entire cavern. Ancient symbols covered its surface while countless chains emerged from the surrounding districts and connected themselves to the barrier.

The prison had created another seal.

The voice beyond the Door laughed.

The sound echoed softly through the darkness.

Then one enormous crack appeared across the barrier.

Silence followed.

Absolute silence.

The crack spread.

Slowly.

Relentlessly.

The wall shattered.

The prison screamed.

The First Son lowered his hand.

For several moments, nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The ancient being stared toward the abyss.

Then he laughed.

The reaction stunned everyone.

The First Son laughed.

Not because the situation was amusing.

Because he appeared genuinely impressed.

"You're stronger."

The words echoed through the cavern.

The voice answered immediately.

"So are you."

The conversation felt wrong.

Like listening to two storms speak to one another.

The First Son folded his arms.

"You should have remained asleep."

The abyss remained silent for a moment.

Then:

"You should have remained imprisoned."

The city trembled.

Ancient towers collapsed.

The pressure filling the cavern increased dramatically.

Kael felt the mark pulse again.

A memory surfaced.

The world vanished.

Darkness consumed everything.

Yet this time there was no throne.

No bells.

No Sleeper.

Only a vast plain stretching endlessly beneath a broken sky.

The world was burning.

Cities had fallen.

Mountains had shattered.

The stars themselves seemed dead.

At the center of the devastation stood three figures.

The First Son.

The Sleeper.

And a third figure hidden beneath darkness.

The war had already begun.

The realization struck instantly.

This wasn't the end.

This was the beginning.

The hidden figure raised one hand.

The sky cracked.

The Sleeper moved.

The First Son charged.

Then the memory shattered.

Reality returned.

Kael staggered.

The underground city reappeared around him.

The battle.

The prison.

The abyss.

Everything returned.

Yet one detail remained burned into his thoughts.

The third figure.

The thing hidden beneath darkness.

The thing beyond the Door.

The thing currently reaching toward reality.

It had fought the Sleeper before.

It had fought the First Son before.

And somehow—

It had survived.

The realization sent a chill through him.

Then the black mark suddenly pulsed with unprecedented force.

Dark light erupted across his arm.

The city froze.

The First Son looked toward him.

The voice beyond the Door became silent.

Even the faceless giant turned.

For one impossible moment, every powerful being within the prison focused on the same person.

Kael.

The mark glowed brighter.

Darker.

Stronger.

Then ancient words appeared across his skin.

Words written in a language older than history.

Words nobody should have been able to read.

Yet Kael understood them immediately.

The message contained only four words.

The Last Heir Has Awakened.

The underground city became silent.

Because everyone knew.

Nothing would ever be the same again.
