Theo's POV
The afternoon sun was warm on my skin as I sat on the balcony of our apartment, a cup of coffee cooling in my hands. Jax was inside, finishing up some paperwork for his new job on Earth. The city sounds drifted up,distant traffic, children laughing in the park below, the rustle of leaves in the breeze. It still felt surreal sometimes, this quiet, normal life we were building together.
I had been thinking about it for days.
I set my cup down and walked back inside. Jax was at the dining table, frowning at his tablet. When he heard me, he looked up and smiled that soft smile that always made my chest feel warm.
"Hey," he said. "You okay? You've been quiet today."
I walked over and sat on his lap, straddling him so we were face to face. His hands automatically settled on my hips, thumbs stroking gently.
"I've been thinking," I said quietly. "About your parents."
Jax's expression changed, a mix of worry and love. "Theo…"
