Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9

Maya's POV

‎I was happy that Lana was laughing again because seriously, who the hell cries over jerks?

‎"You think everyone knows we broke up?" Lana asked.

‎"Yeah. You know how fast news flies around here," I replied.

‎"But seriously, who does he think he is? Girl, if I were you, I would've slashed his tires or painted his car pink," Mary said dramatically.

‎"That's childish, Mary. Besides, I already know the perfect revenge," Lana said with a smirk.

‎"What is it? Darling, tell me," I said, already feeling excited.

‎"Just wait and see, guys. Don't be so impatient," Lana replied.

‎"Come on, tell us your plan please," Mary begged.

‎Lana laughed. "Wait, I thought you were the reserved type. It's honestly awkward watching you try to plan someone's downfall."

‎"Reserved my foot," Mary scoffed.

‎We all burst into laughter, and in that moment, I forgot I was supposed to hate my sister. I forgot that Lana had just gone through her first heartbreak, and somehow we were laughing like crazy people. Honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if we became tomorrow's top headline at Aljezebre News.

‎We decided to try something completely different today. We came to school dressed in matching black-themed outfits. It was all Lana's idea, and trust me, we spent six whole hours picking them yesterday.

‎Lana wore a fitted black leather skirt with a cropped long-sleeve top, knee-high boots, silver chains around her neck, and dark sunglasses that made her look like a celebrity avoiding paparazzi.

‎Mary went for a full Wednesday Addams vibe — a black pleated skirt, black stockings, chunky boots, and a long black dress with a white collar. Her dark lipstick made her look even colder.

‎As for me, I wore ripped black jeans, a fitted sleeveless top, an oversized black jacket hanging off one shoulder, and black sneakers. Simple, but hot.

‎And trust me, we all slayed.

‎Since we were already the center of attention, Lana confidently walked up to Max while everyone watched. She threw a flower at him dramatically.

‎"You were dead to me a long time ago, but I thought it would be a shame not to hold a funeral for you. So here I am, giving you one. Hope you enjoy it, sweetheart."

‎Then she strutted away like she owned the entire school.

‎"That's my girl," I said proudly. "I've never been this proud of anyone before."

‎"You should've seen his face while you were talking," I added.

‎"Whatever, girl. By the way, have you seen Lee? I heard he got into a serious fight with Max," Lana said.

‎"WHAT?!" I practically screamed. "Where is he? Oh my God, what if he's injured? I need to see him."

‎Mary raised an eyebrow. "First of all, why are you so concerned? I'm pretty sure Max is the one who should need your concern, not Lee."

‎"She's right, Maya… unless you want to see him," Lana teased.

‎"Of course I want to see him. And I trust Lee to beat the living hell out of Max. I mean, if not, how are we supposed to cope in bed—"

‎I froze immediately after the words left my mouth. My cheeks burned red.

‎Mary looked disgusted. "Seriously, Maya? Could you keep that information private? I do not want that image stuck in my head."

‎Then she glanced at my outfit and shook her head. "And you want to go see Lee dressed like that? Seriously?"

‎She walked out before I could answer.

‎"I don't care about my outfit," I muttered. "What about you?"

‎"If you want to see him, we'll have to skip Literature and go to Biology," Lana replied.

‎"I don't mind. But what if he isn't there?" I asked nervously.

‎"Trust me, he is. He never misses Biology," Lana assured me.

‎Biology was honestly terrible, especially when you're asked to explain homeostasis when you know absolutely nothing about Biology. And because my life enjoys embarrassing me, Mr. Eliot called on me first.

‎I stood there awkwardly while the whole class stared at me like I was supposed to magically know the answer.

‎But then I looked at Lee.

‎Before I entered the class, he had been seething with anger, but the moment he saw me, his eyes lit up.

‎And somehow… that gave me hope.

‎Maybe he liked me.

‎Maybe I wasn't imagining things.

‎And when Mr. Eliot looked ready to completely destroy my reputation in front of the class, Lee answered the question for me and saved me.

‎He always does that.

‎Like some knight in shining armor, always saving the girl in distress.

‎Honestly, I didn't mind.

‎I just wished he could save my weak heart too by finally asking me out.

‎But my smile slowly faded when I noticed something.
