Island of Demons
The mist thickened the moment Kazo stepped beyond the shore, swallowing the sound of the sea behind him. It was as if the world he came from had vanished, leaving only silence… and something far worse beneath it.
Each step felt heavy.
Not from exhaustion—but from the weight of unseen eyes.
The ground beneath his feet was damp, almost breathing, as twisted trees rose around him like silent guardians of the island's secrets. Their branches bent unnaturally, forming shapes that resembled hands reaching out.
Kazo tightened his grip on his blade.
"Show yourselves," he said, his voice steady despite the tension in his chest.
For a moment… nothing.
Then—
A crack of thunder split the sky.
A blinding flash of light revealed a towering figure standing ahead.
Its body was wrapped in shadows, but its eyes burned like lightning itself.
"Akuma Raiden…" Kazo whispered.
The demon smiled.
"You know my name," Raiden said, his voice echoing like thunder rolling through the mountains. "Then you know you should run."
Kazo didn't move.
"I didn't come this far to run."
The air around them vibrated. Lightning struck the ground beside Kazo, sending sparks across the wet earth.
Raiden stepped forward.
"Then die."
In an instant, the demon lunged.
Kazo barely had time to react. He threw himself to the side as lightning tore through the space where he had stood. The force of it burned his skin, sending pain through his body—but he forced himself up.
Too fast…
Raiden attacked again, each movement faster than the last, each strike filled with enough power to shatter stone. Kazo blocked what he could, dodged what he couldn't—but it wasn't enough.
He was losing.
A strike sent him crashing into a tree. The impact knocked the air from his lungs.
Raiden approached slowly.
"You are weak," the demon said. "Like all humans."
Kazo struggled to stand. His vision blurred, his body trembling.
Maybe… this was the end.
Maybe the island was right.
Maybe he was never meant to survive.
Then—
A memory.
Aiko's voice.
"No matter what happens… don't give up."
Kazo's hand tightened around his blade.
"I'm not… done yet."
Raiden paused.
For the first time, something changed in the demon's expression.
Interest.
Kazo charged forward.
Not with strength—but with everything he had left.
Raiden struck—but this time, Kazo didn't retreat. He stepped into the attack, ignoring the pain as lightning burned across his shoulder.
And then—
He struck.
A direct hit.
Raiden staggered back, more surprised than hurt.
Kazo didn't wait.
He ran.
Deeper into the forest.
The air grew colder as he moved forward.
The sound of thunder faded, replaced by something softer… something unsettling.
Whispers.
Faint at first.
Then clearer.
"Why do you run…?"
Kazo stopped.
The voice wasn't behind him.
It was… everywhere.
From the shadows between the trees, a figure slowly emerged.
A woman.
Long black hair flowed like water, covering parts of her pale face. Her eyes were empty… yet filled with sorrow.
"Yurei Hana…" Kazo said quietly.
She tilted her head.
"You carry pain," she whispered. "I can feel it."
Kazo remained silent.
"You fight for something," she continued, stepping closer without making a sound. "For someone."
"Aiko," he said.
The name felt like light in the darkness.
Yurei Hana smiled faintly.
"Love," she said. "Such a fragile thing."
Suddenly, the world around him changed.
The forest disappeared.
And Kazo found himself standing in a familiar place.
His home.
The river.
And there—standing before him—
"Aiko…"
She turned, smiling exactly as he remembered.
"You came back," she said softly.
Kazo's heart pounded.
This wasn't real.
It couldn't be.
And yet…
He stepped forward.
Just one step.
Then another.
"Aiko…" his voice broke.
She reached out her hand.
"Stay," she whispered. "You don't have to suffer anymore."
For a moment…
He wanted to believe it.
To stay here.
To forget everything.
But something felt wrong.
Her eyes.
They were empty.
Kazo stopped.
"No," he said firmly.
The illusion flickered.
"You're not her."
Aiko's face twisted.
The world shattered like glass.
And Yurei Hana stood before him once more.
"You chose pain," she said quietly.
"I chose truth."
For a brief second… she smiled.
Then she vanished into the mist.
Kazo fell to his knees, breathing heavily.
His body was injured.
His mind… exhausted.
But he was still alive.
And he was closer.
Somewhere ahead… the Elixir awaited.
But so did something else.
Something stronger.
Something final.
Kazo stood again, forcing his body to move.
"I'm coming, Aiko," he whispered.
And with that—
He stepped deeper into the heart of the island.
