Training began the next morning.
Lyra quickly learned something important.
Power wasn't the problem.
Control was.
She stood inside a circular arena made of glowing stone.
Around her stood Kael, the stranger, and another man she hadn't met before.
Silver hair.
Relaxed posture.
Playful eyes.
"I'm Rylan," he said with a grin.
Lyra already knew he was trouble.
"Try not to burn the city down today."
She tried to hide a smile.
"Try not to annoy me," she replied.
Kael laughed loudly.
"Oh I like her."
The stranger didn't laugh.
"Focus."
Lyra raised her hands.
Energy flickered.
Nothing happened.
She frowned.
Tried again.
Fire exploded outward.
Too much.
A training dummy turned to ash instantly.
Lyra jumped back in shock.
"I didn't mean"
Rylan clapped slowly.
"Impressive."
The stranger stepped behind her.
"Feel it. Don't force it."
His hands gently guided her wrists.
Her breathing slowed.
Her heartbeat calmed.
The fire returned.
Smaller this time.
Controlled.
Her first success.
Their faces were very close now.
Too close.
She felt his breath.
Felt his warmth.
Her heart started racing again but not from fear.
Kael noticed.
He definitely noticed.
"Careful," he smirked.
"Training is getting interesting."
Lyra quickly stepped away.
Embarrassed.
Confused.
Excited.
Dangerous feelings.
By evening she finally produced a stable energy shield.
Small.
But real.
Everyone saw it.
Rylan nodded.
Kael looked impressed.
The stranger looked… proud.
Then Lyra felt it.
A presence.
Cold.
Watching.
She turned slowly.
A figure stood at the arena entrance.
Someone she thought she would never see again.
Someone from her past.
"Hello Lyra."
Her blood froze.
"I finally found you."
Lyra couldn't move.
The figure stepped forward into the light.
It was Darius.
Her former protector from years ago… the one who disappeared during a Guild raid.
"You… you're alive?" she whispered.
He smiled.
But something felt wrong.
"I am," he said.
His eyes flickered red.
Guild corruption.
The stranger immediately stepped forward.
"He belongs to them now."
Lyra shook her head.
"No… he saved me once."
Darius laughed softly.
"And now I'll save you again."
His power erupted.
Shadow chains burst from the ground.
Lyra reacted instinctively.
Fire shield.
Impact.
Explosion.
The arena cracked.
Rylan jumped in.
Kael moved beside her.
For the first time, the three fought together.
Not perfectly.
But naturally.
Like they were meant to.
Lyra realized something important:
She wasn't alone anymore.
Darius retreated into shadows.
"Next time… you come with me."
Then he vanished.
Silence followed.
Lyra's hands trembled.
The stranger placed his hand over hers.
"You did well."
Kael added softly:
"You're stronger than you think."
Rylan smiled:
"And more dangerous than you realize."
Lyra looked at all three.
Her life had changed completely.
From the sky…
The Blood Moon began to rise.
And everyone knew what that meant.
War was coming.
