Chapter 82 - Chapter 82: The Forgotten Truth.

"My… mother?"

Lyra's voice barely escaped her lips.

The world around her blurred.

The Devourer's countless crimson eyes watched her with cruel amusement.

Its enormous jaws curled into a monstrous grin.

"You never wondered why you survived?"

A sharp pain exploded inside Lyra's head.

The Hope Mark burned like fire.

Memories she had never known crashed against the walls of her mind.

A woman laughing.

Warm hands brushing through her hair.

A lullaby carried on the evening wind.

Someone whispering—

"No matter what happens, never lose hope."

Lyra staggered backward.

Kael caught her before she fell.

"Lyra!"

She clutched her head, breathing heavily.

"I… I remember…"

The Devourer laughed.

"Good."

"Remember how she died."

The world dissolved.

Lyra found herself standing in another memory.

Night.

Rain poured across an ancient city.

Buildings burned.

The streets echoed with screams.

A younger woman with silver-black hair ran through the chaos, carrying a little girl wrapped in a cloak.

The little girl.

Lyra.

Her mother held her tightly.

"Don't cry."

The woman smiled despite the tears in her eyes.

"Everything will be alright."

Behind them—

The same Devourer descended from the storm.

Smaller than it was now.

But just as terrifying.

Its roar shattered the sky.

The woman stopped running.

She looked down at little Lyra.

"I'm sorry."

She kissed her daughter's forehead.

"I can't go with you."

Tiny Lyra grabbed her sleeve.

"Mama…"

The woman's smile trembled.

"Listen carefully."

She pressed a glowing crystal into Lyra's tiny hands.

"If you ever lose your way…"

"Follow hope."

Golden and black light surrounded the child.

A portal opened.

The woman gently pushed Lyra inside.

"I love you."

The portal closed.

A heartbeat later—

The Devourer struck.

The memory shattered.

Lyra screamed.

Tears streamed freely down her face.

Kael held her steady.

"What did you see?"

Lyra looked up slowly.

"My mother…"

Her voice broke.

"She didn't abandon me."

Silence fell across the battlefield.

The Devourer's laughter stopped.

Its countless eyes narrowed.

"Correct."

"She chose extinction instead."

A surge of fury erupted from Lyra.

The Hope Mark blazed with brilliant black-and-silver light.

The flowers around the palace burst into bloom.

Even the withered fields began recovering.

The Devourer hissed.

For the first time—

It stepped back.

Selene noticed immediately.

"It fears Hope."

Astraeus' voice echoed from the Hope System.

"Not hope alone."

"Inherited hope."

Lyra slowly stood.

The tears remained on her face.

But something inside her had changed.

She was no longer searching for the past.

She had found it.

"My mother died protecting me."

The Devourer answered coldly.

"She died protecting failure."

Kael's sword ignited instantly.

"Say that again."

Flames roared around him.

Rylan's lightning exploded across the sky.

"You picked the wrong family."

Selene drew her twin blades.

"No one insults the dead."

Even the stranger stepped forward.

His shadow aura expanded across the forest.

"We end this together."

Lyra looked at them.

A warmth spread through her heart.

Once—

She had believed she was alone.

Now—

She had people willing to stand beside her against impossible odds.

She smiled through her tears.

"Thank you."

The Devourer opened its wings.

Darkness swallowed half the sky.

"Then die together."

The ground exploded.

Hundreds of smaller Void creatures crawled from cracks in the earth.

Wolf-like beasts made entirely of black mist.

Each one with glowing crimson eyes.

Rylan stared.

"Oh, come on!"

Kael tightened his grip on his sword.

"They're trying to overwhelm us."

Elaria stepped forward.

Her emerald aura spread through the forest.

Flowers erupted from every direction.

Vines wrapped around the first wave of creatures.

"I'll protect the civilians."

Lyra nodded.

"Leave the Devourer to us."

The creature laughed.

"You cannot defeat eternity."

Lyra raised her hand.

The Hope Mark and Balance Mark shone together.

"No."

Her voice echoed across Elysia.

"But we can protect tomorrow."

The forest answered.

Every flower bloomed.

Every tree trembled.

Even the stone statues began cracking.

The Heart of Compassion had heard her.

And it had awakened.

As the first statue shattered completely, an ancient knight stepped free from the stone prison, dropped to one knee before Lyra, and declared:

"The Guardians of Compassion have returned."
