Sleep stopped meaning anything.
Food lost its taste.
Time… just passed.
And me?
I was stuck.
Stuck in a loop of thoughts that all led back to one person.
Daniel.
It had been a week now.
Seven full days.
And still… nothing.
No message.
No call.
No trace.
It was like he erased himself from the world.
But I refused to believe that.
Because people don't just disappear.
Not without a reason.
Not without leaving something behind.
And if there was one thing I knew about Daniel…
It was that he always left clues.
I sat cross-legged on my bed, my phone in my hand, his chat open again.
My eyes scanned every message we had ever sent each other.
From the silly jokes…
To the late-night conversations…
To the small details I never paid attention to before.
Until now.
"Think, Amara…" I whispered to myself. "Think."
Then I saw it.
A message.
Old.
Almost forgotten.
"If I ever disappear, you'll probably find me somewhere quiet… you know I hate noise."
My heart skipped.
Somewhere quiet.
What did that even mean?
Daniel had always been like that—someone who preferred peace over chaos.
He didn't like crowded places.
He didn't like attention.
He liked… calm.
Private.
Hidden.
My mind started racing.
Where would he go?
My fingers moved quickly as I opened his profile again.
Photos.
Old posts.
Tagged locations.
Anything.
Everything.
Then I found it.
A picture.
Posted months ago.
Just a simple photo of the ocean… nothing special.
But the caption?
"One day, I'll come back here and stay for a while."
My breath caught.
I clicked the location.
A beach.
Not too far… but far enough.
My heart started pounding again.
"Daniel…" I whispered.
Was this where he went?
I didn't hesitate.
I grabbed my bag, my charger, and whatever money I had left.
This wasn't smart.
It wasn't planned.
But I didn't care anymore.
Because at this point…
I wasn't just missing him.
I needed to see him.
The journey felt longer than it actually was.
Every second stretched with anticipation.
What if I was wrong?
What if he wasn't there?
What if I got there and found… nothing?
But what if I didn't go?
That thought alone made my chest tighten painfully.
No.
I had to try.
By the time I got there, the sun was already beginning to set.
The sky was painted in soft orange and pink hues, the sound of waves crashing gently against the shore.
It was beautiful.
Peaceful.
Exactly the kind of place Daniel would choose.
My eyes scanned the area quickly.
People walked around.
Some laughed.
Some sat quietly.
But none of them were him.
My heart started sinking.
"No…" I muttered, stepping further onto the sand. "He has to be here…"
I walked deeper, my eyes searching desperately.
Left.
Right.
Everywhere.
Then—
I saw him.
He stood near the edge of the water, his back facing me.
Still.
Quiet.
Just… watching the waves.
Like he was a part of the silence itself.
My breath caught.
For a moment, I couldn't move.
Couldn't speak.
Because after all this time…
After all the searching…
There he was.
Real.
Right in front of me.
"Daniel…"
My voice came out softer than I expected.
Almost like I was afraid he might disappear if I spoke too loud.
His body stiffened slightly.
Slowly…
He turned.
And the moment his eyes met mine…
Everything changed.
Shock.
Confusion.
And something deeper…
Something he couldn't hide.
"Amara…?" he said, like he wasn't sure if I was real.
I let out a shaky breath, taking a step closer.
"I found you."
Silence.
The waves crashed softly behind him, but neither of us moved.
"Why are you here?" he asked finally, his voice low… guarded.
I swallowed hard.
"Because you left," I said. "Without saying anything. Without telling me where you were going."
His jaw tightened slightly.
"I needed space."
"You disappeared."
"I told you to figure out what you wanted."
"And I did," I said quickly.
That made him pause.
His eyes searched mine carefully.
"Did you?" he asked.
My heart pounded loudly in my chest.
Every step that led me here…
Every sleepless night…
Every tear…
All came down to this moment.
"Yes," I whispered.
Silence stretched between us again.
Heavy.
Tense.
"Then say it," he said.
My breath hitched.
"Say what you came here to say."
I took another step closer.
Close enough to see every emotion in his eyes.
Close enough to feel the distance between us…
Even when we were standing right here.
"I couldn't breathe without you," I admitted softly. "I tried to ignore it. I tried to choose the 'right thing'…"
My voice trembled slightly.
"But nothing feels right without you."
His expression shifted.
Cracked.
Just slightly.
"I thought about you every second," I continued. "I came all the way here because I couldn't take it anymore."
My heart felt like it was about to explode.
"I don't just feel something for you, Daniel…"
I paused.
Then finally said it.
"I love you."
Silence.
Pure.
Unmoving.
Unforgiving silence.
Daniel didn't react immediately.
Didn't move.
Didn't speak.
He just stared at me.
And for the first time since I met him…
I couldn't read him.
At all.
