They piled into a massive industrial freight elevator, the metal cage groaning as it began its descent into the sub-levels. Halfway down, the power flickered. The lift lurched to a violent halt.
"Emergency brakes," Lily groaned, looking at the ceiling. "They've cut the line."
"We're stuck," Adrien said, checking his HUD. "And the air filtration just shut off."
Red emergency lighting bathed the small space in a bloody glow. Leon and Ashley stood back-to-back, weapons raised.
"Ashley," Leon said softly, his voice echoing in the cramped space. "If we don't make it out... that comment about the lightning? I meant it."
Ashley didn't turn around, but her hand shifted, her pinky finger hooking into the loop of his tactical vest. "Don't get sentimental on me now, Leon. We still have a Director to kick off a roof."
"Just checking," he grinned.
