Chapter 60 - The Hero We Needed

Not long after we arrived at the dark walls, several villagers gathered at that same area. Holding their weapons as pitchforks. They were surprised by Elias' arrival.

"Lord Elias, we've finished scouting the perimeter, it's all up to you."

The villagers said calmly through my brother. It seems that the trauma they endured during their time in the village. They called my big brother a "Lord" at top of his name, pledging loyalty over confidence.

"Good job soldiers! Continue scouting the perimeter until one shred of monster is spotted."

"Sir, Yes, Sir!"

Luckily, with Elias's shadow horse, we managed to fit all five of us in his horse. Despite its hugely appearance, it is considered one of the fastest horses known to man, outrunning regular tamed horses.

The walls were four meters long, and three meters thick. Elias mana was severely depleted while creating these huge walls that scattered at the village, he can only rely on Catherine's mana regeneration, then pushing himself to the limits. There was no stopping now.

"So, how are we supposed to get up?"

"Of course, The ladder?"

Patricia pointed out a four meter ladder that was placed intentionally, it was a dark magic specialty. Of course it was a built-in ladder. It is connected through the dark walls, and yet, it's high altitude was not enough, a high orcs can manage to go into the village.

We climbed onto the ladder. As usual, it was hard, like very hard. If I compare Elias's dark magic over my blood curse, I can tell that his magic wins over mine. His magic has several abilities, while my blood curse only relies on growth.

As we climbed onto the ladder, we saw a stunning view of the mountains. Its mountain ranges were connected into smaller mountains. But now is the time to admire enough, there is a fight going on.

Around the time Elias was growing tired of this farce, he sensed movement on the horizon and quickly grew serious.

"They're here."

Elias turned towards the mountains and looked off into the distance. They weren't visible to the naked eye yet, but Elias's dark magic was receiving their images from his shadow crows.

The horse of monsters was large enough to bury the earth. Not only high orcs, but massive black wolves, six-legged lizards, mantis with scythes on their arms, neospiders, and more. All of them are mid to high-level beasts. Even through a video feed, Elias could tell.

The army was massive. They kicked up a tornado of dust as they passed, and swallowed up the ground before them like a wriggling black tidal wave. Their murderous red-black eyes glinted in the black mass, a sea of corrupted rubies. They were even more than he'd initially seen at the mountain. At a guess, there seemed to be around four to five thousand in total.

"No shit…"

Worse, the sky was filled with flying monsters as well. They looked like a flock of pteranodons. A mid-level beast. But the dark red miasma oozing from their bodies spelled trouble. He was certain they were stronger than the monsters down below.

Among the dozens of pteranodons, one of them was clearly bigger than the rest. And while it was hard to make out, there seemed to be a human-shaped figure riding into it. I can tell that this is the mastermind of all of this.

Catherine and Patricia tensed up, guessing from Elias's sudden change in mood that the enemy was coming. He nodded to them before turning back to his little sister and the others, who were looking out nervously.

"Brother, they're here. And there's more than I expected. They'll be at the village in thirty minutes. There's a little under five thousand of them. They're a lot of different kinds, too." I said

My face paled when they heard there were even more that they'd initially expected. They exchanged uneasy glances. Elias jumped to the top of the wall and turned back to them, a fearless smile in his face.

"Don't look so worried, Eirene. A couple thousand more's no big deal. Anyway, like we planned, you tell the villagers to man the wall in case anything slips past. Though you probably have to fight."

He spoke as casually as if he were on a picnic. I squinted at his radiant confidence and responded to him in a worried tone.

"Okay, I know I'm in no position to say this since I'm the one who asked this for you, but please…stay safe."

The only people left with Elias now were me, Catherine, Patricia and Alta. It was obvious they had something they wanted to say as well but they'd kept quiet until I had finished.

I saw Alta's expression was off. Elias tilted in confusion, so Alta smiled and explained.

"Earlier, Cassius said that if I survive this battle he'll forgive me for the deaths of his adventurer friends… And so, I humbly request that you let me assist you. My mana has mostly recovered, and even without transforming to my true chimera form, my flames and gales are quite powerful.

Normally, the Luminous Knight Bureau Association or LKBA for short looked down on beastfolk as subhuman and placed them in the same category as demi-human, but they were actually more like monsters in that they could directly manipulate mana.

Sure, they weren't actually like Catherine, who could control all elements effortlessly without the needs of chants or hand signs, but they could still at least use the magic they had an aptitude in without chants or circles.

Alta flashed him ample cleavage at Elias in an attempt to convince him. Soon enough, Elias wordlessly pulled one of his magic stone rings and plunged it into him.

Alta looked at it, puzzled, before realizing that it was a mana reservoir crafted in pure mana crystals.

The mana reservoir was a ring, when equipped with it. It can regenerate mana twice the speeding process as is. It is crafted and embedded entirely of mana crystals, a rare type of ore that are mostly found in monster regions.

Elias disgustingly gave the mana reservoir to Alta, while Alta suddenly became into pervert mode. He suddenly clings to Elias and directly touching his boobs to him

"Elias, to think you would propose to me before a battle, you know that I am single…"

"Hell no. I'm lending that to you so you can be out turret. You better give it back when we're done here. What the hell made you think I would ever propose to you?"

Ever since Elias kicked Alta in the balls so hard, the rage applied suddenly turned into love-bearer pervert in the process.

"I see. So this is what they call a dark past."

Inwardly cringing at the fact that she'd once made the same joke as a pervert, Suddenly, Catherine slumped Alta's shoulders.

Elias did his best to ignore Alta, who had completely turned out Elias's words and was grinning at the ring in his hands.

"Oh, there here."

Finally, the demon army crested the horizon and grew visible to the naked eye. The villagers gathered on the walls carrying bows, or pitchforks blended in their farmland. The battle would soon be upon them.

Before long the land rumbled from the pounding of ten of thousands of feet. A massive cloud of dust followed in the wake of the monster army, which was now close enough that their howls could be heard by the men on the wall.

Some of the villagers clasped their hands in prayers, while others looked on, pale-faced.

Elias stepped forward. He created a pedestal for himself using dark magic, then turned to address the villagers. He didn't care too much for assuaging the crowd's fears, but he wanted to avoid letting a panicked riot break out as that might have resulted in friendly fire.

Everyone's gazes naturally focused on the brown-haired boy glaring down at them, seemingly ignoring the horse at his back. Once he was sure he had everyone's attention. Elias sucked in a huge breath and spoke in a booming voice.

"Listen up, brave men of Rebelbub Village! Our victory is assured!" Elias shouted

The villagers looked at each other in confusion. Elias ignored them and continued, his voice full of confidence.

"Why? Because we have the famous Blessed Blade on our side! Men, never forget that the great Blessed Blade Alta stands with us!"

The people suddenly started whispering excitedly to their neighbors. Alta, who had been guiding people from the rear as per her guards instructions, suddenly turned around.

"So as long as the great Alta stands with us, we cannot lose! He was sent to mankind by heaven in order to lead us to victory and prosperity. And I am his sword and shield, an avatar born from her desire to protect the people!" Elias continued

The villagers locked eyes at Alta, seeing that the legend had come true. They applaud in praise while Elias continues.

"Behold! This is the strength of one who has received the goddess divine blessing, the strength of the holy sword."

Elias transformed his revolver into a sniper rifle, then placed it on its stand to stabilize it. He kneeled, carefully aligned its scope with one of the pteranodons that had gone ahead on the herd. The villagers watched with bated breath.

Crimson sparks began running down on the sniper's barrel. Within seconds the barrel was coated in a veil of black smoke, giving it a suitably ominous appearance. Suddenly…

Elias's sniper rifle proved its fearsome appearance wasn't just for the show.

"Bang!"

The thunderous noise gave the onlookers a huge start. A single black bullet blazed through the sky. It raced toward the pteranodon faster than the eye could follow.

Like a spear thrust unleashed from God itself.

The pteranodon never stood a chance. There wasn't even time for it to dodge. A sniper bullet faster than sound, powerful enough to pierce through the toughest steel, ripped through the pteranodon flying a few kilometers away. The shockwave was so powerful that it shredded the nearby pteranodon's wings, sending them hurtling to the ground below.

Elias continued firing shot after shot without pause. The sky was filled with streaks of death, each one obliterating another pteranodon. He purposely avoided the huge one carrying the robed figure, but made sure the shockwave of his nearby bullets sent them flying back.

His mana meter was no joke, he can store up nearly hundreds of bullets with stopping, Plus with the help of Catherine's mana regeneration, he is literally a walking death machine.

The massive pteranodon lost one of its wings to the shockwave, and spun to the ground with a piercing shriek. The robed figure with a skull mask atop it was flung off and flailed away as he hurtled to the ground.

In a span of a few seconds, Elias had annihilated the monster's aerial corps. Then, he rested his sniper rifle on his shoulder and calmly turned to the gathered citizens. Their jaws were hanging open in shock. However, Elias merely grinned fearlessly.

In the eyes of the people of Rebelbub Village, Alta had become a goddess not just in name, but in truth. The citizens were no longer afraid. Each and every one of them looked at Alta with eyes full of hope and worship.

"All hail, Alta Granite, The Blessed Blade!" Elias raised his hands up triumphantly, extolling Alta's greatness. Then a second later…

"All hail the Blessed Blade! All hail the Blessed Blade!"

"All hail our goddess! The mighty Alta Granite had once saved us again!"

As the citizens began chanting his name. Alta blushed with embarrassment and started trembling. He looked up at Elias and mouthed.

"Just what do you think you're doing!"

Elias, however, just shrugged nonchalantly and turned back to the incoming army.

I stood there, a confused look of a bystander. I asked my brother what the reason was. Then he spoke.

He had his reasons.

Elias had planned this from the start. Firstly, to increase Alta's influence so that he would be more useful when the Luminous Knight Bureau Association or LKBA and the Government turned against him.

And with this incident, his fame as a Blessed Blade would spread. Maintaining my brother's incognito. Even without Elias promoting him anymore, rumors would spread. This, Alta would soon be more just a useful tool for the bureau, he'd be the common people's idol.

Secondly, this way the villagers would be afraid of him for displaying his godlike strength. They'd believed that Elias was some kind of soldier sent by their goddess, turning their fear and suspicion into relief and trust. So, even though the bureau turned against him, he knew there'd be people willing to help him all the same… hopefully.

Thirdly, as it was Alta who started the mass destruction from the village. He wanted to share his responsibility for what he'd started. Gaining back trust from the villagers.

Lastly, this had been the only way Elias could think of to avoid starting a full-scale panic. It was possible there might have been better solutions, but there wasn't enough time to think. Elias has no doubt he'd scold him for later, but this benefited Alta too. Not only that, but this was a direct consequence of his actions… or at the very least.

After Elias finished explaining his master plan through me. I glanced at the horde of monsters once again.

The villagers' cheers were almost loud enough to drown out the roars of the oncoming monsters. Elias could feel Alta glaring angrily at him. He ignored them and began assessing the attack.

"Soldiers, let's end this once and for all!" Elias shouted
