Chapter 13 - Improve It

I woke the next morning feeling heavy. My nerves had stolen most of the night from me, and the few hours of sleep I did manage left my bones aching worse than before. Rest had been hard to come by since I'd arrived here. Something in my head refused to quiet down, refused to let me get comfortable, and the dark circles beneath my eyes were proof of it.

I made it to the field before Sean, right on time. The morning air was cool and clean, the grass still wet with dew, and I found myself smiling without meaning to. Early mornings had always done something good for me. The stillness, the birdsong, the sense that the world hadn't quite started yet. It settled something in me.
