Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Episode 3: The Growing Bond

The connection didn't fade.

It grew.

Samuel stared at the small piece of paper in his hand for what felt like the hundredth time that night.

Zara's number.

He smiled… then sighed.

"What do I even say?" he muttered.

He picked up his phone, typed a message… deleted it.

Typed again… deleted again.

Finally, he closed his eyes.

"God… help me not to mess this up."

Then he typed:

"Hi… it's Samuel."

He sent it quickly before fear could stop him.

A few minutes passed.

No reply.

Samuel dropped his phone on the bed and stood up, pacing around his room.

"Relax," he told himself. "She might be busy."

But his heart refused to calm down.

Then—

Ping.

He rushed back, grabbing his phone so fast he almost dropped it.

"I know 😊"

Samuel froze.

Then laughed softly.

"She saved my number already…"

His heart warmed in a way he couldn't explain.

That night… they talked.

And talked.

And talked.

What started as a simple greeting turned into hours of conversation.

"Why do I feel like I've known you for a long time?" Samuel asked.

Zara replied after a short pause.

"Maybe our souls met before we did."

Samuel leaned back on his bed, staring at the ceiling, smiling.

"You always say things like that?"

"Only when I mean them," she replied.

Days turned into a routine.

Morning messages.

Afternoon check-ins.

Late-night conversations that stretched into early mornings.

They didn't just talk—they connected.

One night, the conversation changed.

It became deeper.

More personal.

"Can I ask you something?" Zara said.

"Anything," Samuel replied.

There was a pause.

"Have you ever been… broken before?"

Samuel sat up slowly.

He wasn't expecting that.

"Yes," he said quietly.

"Life broke me… not love."

Zara went silent for a few seconds.

Then she typed:

"I think love broke me."

Samuel's expression softened.

He could feel it—the weight behind her words.

"What happened?" he asked gently.

Another pause.

Longer this time.

"I trusted someone," she finally said.

"I gave my heart completely… and he changed."

Samuel felt a tightness in his chest.

"I'm sorry," he said.

"It's okay," she replied quickly.

"I've healed… or at least, I'm trying to."

Samuel closed his eyes.

"God… help me handle her heart with care," he prayed silently.

From that night, something shifted.

Their bond became stronger—but also more delicate.

Zara laughed… but sometimes her laughter carried hidden pain.

She smiled… but sometimes it didn't reach her eyes.

And Samuel noticed.

One evening, they met again.

This time, not by chance.

They chose to.

They sat together under a quiet sky, a gentle breeze moving around them.

For a moment, neither spoke.

They just enjoyed the peace.

"Samuel," Zara said softly.

"Hmm?"

"Promise me something."

He turned to her.

"What is it?"

She looked at him—really looked at him.

"Don't pretend."

He frowned slightly.

"Pretend?"

"Yes," she said.

"Don't pretend to care… don't pretend to stay… don't pretend to love."

Her voice trembled slightly.

"I've experienced that before. And it hurts more than being alone."

Samuel's heart sank.

He could see it clearly now.

Her fear.

Her guarded heart.

"I won't pretend," he said firmly.

Zara searched his eyes, as if trying to see beyond his words.

"People say that," she whispered.

"I'm not people," Samuel replied.

There was a quiet confidence in his voice.

Not pride.

Not arrogance.

Just truth.

Zara looked away for a moment.

Then back at him.

And slowly…

She smiled.

A real smile this time.

"Okay," she said softly.

"I'll believe you… little by little."

Samuel nodded.

"That's enough for me."

As they sat there, silence returned—but it was no longer empty.

It was full.

Full of understanding.

Full of something new…

Something growing.

That night, as Samuel lay in bed, he whispered:

"God… if this is love… let it be right."

And somewhere, not too far away…

Zara whispered the same prayer.
