Chapter 27 - 27

Chapter 27 Seeking Medicine

It was almost midnight when Yu Miaomiao came back from the 16th floor. She doesn't behave well when drunk; after drinking, she likes to chat with people. Besides the three little ones, only Lu An lives at home.

So Lu An forced himself to stay awake and chatted with Yu Miaomiao while watching the Spring Festival Gala on the tablet. They talked about everything from their past lives to this one, and Yu Miaomiao seemed to have endless things to say.

It wasn't until the Spring Festival Gala started playing "Unforgettable Tonight" that Yu Miaomiao yawned repeatedly and fell asleep on the sofa. Lu An covered her with a blanket and told her to sleep in the living room tonight.

The electric heaters were all on, and the two chubby little cats, one on each side like guardians, were curled up at her feet, so she shouldn't be cold.

Lu An, who thought he could finally go to sleep, was about to wash up and go to bed when he heard a rapid knocking on the door downstairs.

Who is it?

"I...I am Grandma Liu." She paused and hesitated behind the door, as if she had made up her mind before speaking.

"Grandma Liu, is there anything I can help you with?"

"Yaoyao... Yaoyao has a persistent high fever... I really don't know what to do. Her parents wouldn't let me come, saying it's normal for children to have fevers, and that physical cooling methods and lying down will make her lively again tomorrow. But it's almost dawn... and the child has started talking nonsense..."

Their things are all in Yu Miaomiao's space, so we need to wake Yu Miaomiao up about this.

"It's cold outside, you should go back first, we'll come find you later."

"Okay, thank you. I really have no other choice. If you have any medicine, we will definitely repay you handsomely. We will give you half of our food and water... no, all of it, all of it, in exchange for the medicine."

Grandma Liu wiped away her tears and walked downstairs. Yao Yao had never caused any trouble since she was little. She really couldn't bear to see the child suffer like this. Even if she were to die now, she couldn't bear to see her child suffer.

My son and daughter-in-law are both stubborn and do not like to cause trouble for others. If we don't ask for help now, will we regret it when something happens to our child?

"Miaomiao, something happened to Liu Yao, and I can't make up my mind."

"What's wrong?"

Upon hearing that Liu Yao was in trouble, Yu Miaomiao reluctantly sat up from the sofa. She was still quite sleepy, but she still wanted to hear about the girl's situation.

"The fever won't go down. It shouldn't be this serious unless you're perfectly healthy. We have fever reducers for children, would you like some...?"

"No need for now, let's go take a look."

Upon hearing about the fever, Yu Miaomiao realized that it wasn't a simple matter.

I found some edible suspension for children in my backpack, and also found some physical cooling patches, a thermometer, and other items to put in the backpack.

Using the light from their flashlights, the two of them went down the stairs one after the other.

A light tap on the tent elicited a faint sound from inside, after which the tent was pulled open.

Grandma Liu welcomed them inside and said softly, "They're all asleep."

Gently entering the inner room of the tent, He Xin saw Liu Pei and his wife kneeling in front of Yao Yao's bed, with tears welling up in her eyes.

The feeling of heartache yet helplessness was something Yu Miaomiao experienced enough of in her previous life.

"I brought a thermometer; I need to take my temperature first."

Yu Miaomiao tucked the thermometer under the little girl's armpit, and Lu An brought her a small stool to sit on the edge of the bed. She gently supported the little girl's arm with her hand to prevent the thermometer from falling.

Gently touching the little girl's forehead, it was very hot, undoubtedly she had a fever, and the little girl was also in a coma, her consciousness was very unclear.

Apart from that, there were no other symptoms.

Seeing Liu Yao's condition, Lu An suddenly thought of a possibility. No wonder Yu Miaomiao said not to give her the medicine yet, but to come and take a look.

"Mom...Mom...I...I'm not afraid of you!"

The nightmare made the little girl scream, but her eyes kept twitching and she couldn't open them.

He Xin and Liu Pei woke up when they heard the first "Mom" and saw Yu Miaomiao sitting next to them.

"Mommy's here, baby, don't be afraid." She didn't speak to Yu Miaomiao, but gently patted Liu Yao, trying to ease her nightmare.

"it's useless."

"What's the meaning?"

"Her fever is not ordinary."

Yu Miaomiao took out a thermometer and glanced at it: 41.3 degrees Celsius.

"Is there a way to cure this? You...you're a doctor?"

Liu Pei's tone was somewhat uncertain. Yu Miaomiao was so young, she looked to be only in her early twenties... she still looked like a student.

"No, I'm just a clinical medicine student, I haven't graduated from university yet."

"Then why did you say it wasn't a normal fever?"

"She doesn't have a normal fever; she's about to awaken her superpowers."

She felt there was no need to hide the fact that she had superpowers from them, since the family was about to face a daughter with special abilities.

"You've been infected too?"

Liu Pei was clearly amused by this remark; young people these days are all a bit immature.

"But why was it brought forward…" Yu Miaomiao ignored Liu Pei and just muttered to herself.

Many things in this life were beyond Yu Miaomiao's expectations. Her superpower awakening was supposed to be half a year after the apocalypse, but only three months have passed now.

"I'm not kidding you, it's true." Lu An directly pinched a cluster of water and showed it to Liu Pei and the others. "I also recently awakened."

She didn't tell the truth because she didn't want to arouse suspicion. But she didn't hide the secret of her superpower either, since there would be more and more people with superpowers in the future.

Liu Pei stared at the sparkling water, feeling as if he had been struck by lightning. This was beyond his comprehension, and he suddenly felt that the world had become strange and absurd.

"What should we do? Will the child be mentally impaired by the fever?"

Seeing the couple standing there in a daze, Grandma Liu couldn't help but speak up. At her age, she had seen many things that were no longer surprising. She believed that when observing people and events, one should focus on the key points and not delve too deeply into anything else.

"Yes, if you can't get through it, you'll become stupid or even... die."

Yu Miaomiao was not exaggerating; these were facts she had witnessed firsthand in her previous life.

"So you mean we can only rely on Ayao's luck?"

"Yes, but if you trust me and let me stay to take care of her, I will do my best, but I hope you can leave."

In her previous life, faced with this situation, Yu Miaomiao and the entire medical center could only resign themselves to fate.

But after experiencing Lu An's awakening, she felt that there might be new hope—the spring water of space.

She thought she might give it a try with Liu Yao, but she wasn't so sure that she would trust Liu Pei and the others enough to reveal her secret of having a spatial ability.

"Okay, I believe you."

This is the second time Yu Miaomiao has been trusted like this; the first time was by Lu An.

"No matter the outcome, our whole family is grateful to you, even if... even if this child doesn't make it, we will never blame you."

He Xin bit her lip, holding back the tears that were about to spill from her eyes, but still firmly said these words. Liu Pei pulled her into his arms, expressed his gratitude to Yu Miaomiao, and led He Xin out of the inner room of the tent.

Grandma Liu stroked Liu Yao's little hand, then grasped Lu An and Yu Miaomiao's hands to thank them, and then left the tent together.
