A Mark is the visible shape of the soul, appearing somewhere on the body when an individual awakens. It does not determine personality, destiny, or morality; it simply reflects the soul's structure. Each Mark grants one unique ability, powered by Ink, the internal energy that fuels all Mark techniques. Ink color varies by personality and becomes visible when abilities activate. Overuse of Ink leads to exhaustion, distortion of the Mark, or mental strain.
There are eight fundamental Mark types:
Reinforcer enhances the body and instincts.
Emitter projects energy or force outward.
Manipulator alters existing matter, energy, or concepts.
Conjurer creates objects or phenomena from nothing.
Healer restores or regenerates biological or spiritual damage.
Summoner calls forth creatures, constructs, or entities.
Special breaks conventional rules, often conceptual or paradoxical.
Hybrid fuses two types into a single ability.
Hybrids come in two subtypes: Combination Hybrids, where both types merge into one unified ability, and Separate Hybrids, where the user switches between two distinct modes.
Marks react to Ink flow—glowing, shifting, or distorting depending on intensity. Abilities always follow the logic of their type: Reinforcers cannot conjure, Conjurers cannot manipulate existing matter unless hybridized, and Special abilities bend rules but maintain internal consistency.
The Mark System is built on clarity, symbolism, and strict internal logic, allowing limitless creativity while maintaining stable, understandable rules.
Of course there are also ink techniques
Ink Techniques are universal disciplines of Ink manipulation that any Mark user can learn, completely separate from the eight Mark types. They don't give new abilities and they don't change what a Mark can do; instead, they change how a fighter uses their Ink. Ink Techniques shape Ink into one of five Forms—Space, Pressure, Time, Technique, and Stats.
