Chapter 30 - Chapter 29: A Devil Fruit That Fits Kingpin Perfectly

"Of course there is."

Rorschach nodded.

"Besides Animal-Type and Paramecia-Type, Devil Fruits have a third major category: Logia-Type."

Logia?

Kingpin and Wesley exchanged a look.

Judging by the names Animal-Type and Paramecia-Type, they could more or less guess what Logia meant.

"Boss, this so-called Logia-Type… does it mean someone can gain the power of natural forces? Like wind? Lightning?"

Kingpin stared at Rorschach, his eyes burning with interest.

"Exactly." Rorschach nodded. "Wind, rain, lightning, light, ice, snow… Logia-Type Devil Fruits allow a person to wield the power of certain natural elements."

"Or to put it more directly…"

"They let you become an element of nature itself."

Both Kingpin and Wesley's eyes lit up.

They might not know anything yet about the flashy techniques those fruits could develop, but just hearing that someone could transform into a force of nature already made Logia sound far superior to Animal-Type and Paramecia-Type.

"Boss, are there no Logia Fruits in the store right now? If not, when will they be available?"

Wesley couldn't hold back and asked immediately.

"I'm afraid not." Rorschach shook his head. "Logia Fruits are extremely rare. They won't be stocked anytime soon."

"And even if they are, the shop will most likely sell them through auction."

He explained it politely.

"I see…"

Kingpin couldn't hide the disappointment on his face.

He knew very well that his chances of getting a Logia Fruit were slim.

Sure, he currently ruled the underworld in New York.

But in front of the truly powerful people in this world, he still wasn't much.

He didn't even qualify for the real table.

And something like a Devil Fruit—especially a Logia Fruit, as the boss described it—was a priceless treasure. It couldn't even be measured in money.

Kingpin didn't need to think hard to know what would happen if one appeared.

The whole world would go mad over it.

That kind of game wasn't one he was qualified to enter.

He had enough self-awareness to understand that.

Not to mention, nobody even knew when the first Logia Fruit would appear.

Kingpin adjusted his expectations quickly and made the rational choice.

"Logia Fruits are too far out of reach for me." He looked back at the display case. "I think I should focus on Animal-Type and Paramecia-Type instead."

That was what he said, but the regret on his face still couldn't be hidden.

The logic was one thing.

The frustration was another.

Even knowing the truth didn't make it sting any less.

"Mr. Fisk, there's no need to be disappointed." Rorschach smiled faintly. "Devil Fruits can grant all kinds of superpowers, but how far that power can actually go still depends on the user."

"A Devil Fruit only gives you a starting point. If you want to become truly strong, you still need to train and develop the ability yourself."

"There's a saying in Devil Fruit circles. I hope both of you remember it."

The way he said it instantly made Kingpin and Wesley straighten up and focus.

They looked like students listening to a teacher deliver something important.

"There are no useless fruits—only useless users."

"If a person doesn't train or develop their power, then even with a top-tier fruit, they still might lose to an Animal-Type user."

The most classic example was Buggy.

The Chop-Chop Fruit was absurdly overpowered in theory, yet he somehow turned it into a joke.

All he ever did was split his body apart at the most basic level.

Then there was that snot-nosed idiot with the Bomb-Bomb Fruit, who used a terrifyingly strong fruit just to flick explosive boogers.

What a waste.

If either of those fruits had been developed properly, they could have become terrifying abilities capable of killing without warning and impossible to defend against.

Both Kingpin and Wesley's expressions shifted slightly, as though someone had just poured cold water over their heads and cleared their minds all at once.

"Thank you for the guidance, Boss," Kingpin said sincerely.

"In the end, it all comes down to one thing." Rorschach spread his hands. "You reap what you sow. Only constant effort can make you stronger."

Then he picked up the catalog and handed it to Kingpin.

"Take a look, Mr. Fisk. See if there's a fruit that suits you."

"If anything catches your eye, tell me. I'll explain it in detail."

Kingpin accepted the catalog and began studying it carefully.

After a while, his finger stopped on one particular fruit.

"Boss, what about this one—the Steel Fruit?"

"The Steel Fruit is a very solid choice." Rorschach smiled. "And in my opinion, it suits you extremely well, Mr. Fisk."

The Steel Fruit came from a One Piece movie, and its user, Bear King, had an absurdly huge physique—just like Kingpin.

On top of that, whenever a part of the body turned to steel, that part became heavier. That meant the user needed tremendous physical strength to handle it properly.

And was Kingpin strong?

Without question.

His body looked massive, almost obese at first glance, but the truth was that he wasn't fat at all.

He was all muscle.

Kingpin's combat ability was terrifying. He had monstrous strength, could punch through walls with his bare hands, and was also a world-class fighter.

In terms of raw human combat capability, he belonged at the absolute peak.

Even in the live-action version, he beat Daredevil senseless in a one-on-one fight. And in another series, he literally tanked an explosion and kept going.

The man was a monster.

If he also gained the Steel Fruit, then his power would rise to a completely different level.

"As the catalog says, the Steel Fruit allows parts of the body to turn to steel. Naturally, the first major benefit is defense. It would give you bulletproof durability."

"Second, it greatly enhances attack power."

He looked Kingpin up and down, then smiled.

"And in your case, Mr. Fisk… if you turned your fists into steel, then punching a bull to death with one blow wouldn't be a problem."

Kingpin actually laughed at that.

With his strength, plus steel fists, that really wasn't an exaggeration.

And to be fair, those were only the fruit's most basic uses. Even without the explanation, Kingpin could have guessed as much from the name.

"But what I just described is only the most basic application of the Steel Fruit."

"In truth, it has much more room for development."

"For example, the user can heat the steel-transformed parts of their body to an extremely high temperature…"

"Like red-hot iron."

Kingpin's eyes brightened even further.

A glowing red-hot steel fist?

Damn.

That was pure cheating.
