Chapter 10 - Pressure mounts

Chapter 10:

The city seemed louder that week. Cars honked, children shouted, vendors called out over the streets. 🌆

Ava walked through it all, her mind heavy.

Her family needed more than she could give. The small miracles she'd been performing felt like drops in an endless ocean.

At home, her mother frowned over the bills.

"We won't have enough for the rent if this keeps up," she muttered.

Her father sighed.

Her grandmother coughed, weakly, again.

Her little brother's stomach rumbled softly.

Ava felt panic tighten in her chest. 🖊️

I have to do something.

She went to her desk and picked up the pencil.

Just a little more, she thought. This time it has to work.

She wrote carefully:

"We have enough money for rent, medicine, and food for the month."

She dropped the pencil.

The next morning, exactly as she had written, the envelopes with money appeared on the kitchen table.

Her mother gasped. "Where…? How?"

Her father blinked in surprise.

Her brother's eyes widened with wonder.

Ava forced a calm smile.

"Just… things worked out," she said quietly.

But inside, fear began to creep in.

I can't keep doing this.

One mistake… and it could all vanish.

Over the next few days, she used the pencil more.

A neighbor offered work Ava hadn't even asked for.

A medicine bottle for her grandmother appeared exactly when needed.

Small improvements kept happening in her life.

Ethan noticed the odd coincidences too.

"Strange, isn't it?" he said one afternoon, looking at a perfectly timed event. "Everything seems to… line up for you."

Ava's heart skipped a beat. 🖊️

"Yes… strange," she whispered, keeping her voice calm.

By the end of the week, Ava was exhausted.

The pencil was powerful… but even she could feel the strain.

It's helping my family… but at what cost?

I have to be careful.

That night, as Ava lay in bed, she stared at the pencil.

I can't stop now, she whispered.

Not when they need me so much.
