The Yotsuba headquarters was a fortress of glass and steel. Misa Amane walked through the lobby, her heels clicking on the marble floor. She looked every bit the superstar model, but hidden inside her handbag was a sophisticated transmitter provided by L.
"Remember, Misa-san," L's voice whispered in her hidden earpiece. "You just need to plant the device under the main table. Once that's done, get out. Do not engage with them."
[Scene 2: The Lion's Den]
Misa entered the boardroom under the guise of an interview for their new ad campaign. The seven directors—now seven, as one had recently died of a 'heart attack'—watched her with cold, calculating eyes.
"She's perfect for the brand," Higuchi said, his eyes lingering on her. "A famous face to distract the public while we make our move."
As the directors discussed their profits, Misa feigned a sneeze, dropping her bag. In that split second, her hand moved with lightning speed, attaching the tiny black bug to the underside of the mahogany table.
[Scene 3: The Surveillance Feed]
Back at the safehouse, Light and L sat in silence, listening to the audio feed. The voices were distorted but clear enough to understand.
"The next target should be the head of the rival bank," a voice on the recording said. "Kira will take care of it tonight."
Light's jaw tightened. "They're talking about it like it's a business transaction. They have no idea what they're playing with."
L looked at Light. "Indeed. They are using a weapon of a god for the greed of men. It's pathetic, really."
[Scene 4: The Revelation]
Suddenly, a new voice appeared on the recording. A voice that Light didn't recognize, but it sent a shiver down his spine.
"The Shinigami is getting restless," the voice whispered. "He wants more than just names. He wants entertainment."
Light turned to L, his eyes wide. "Ryuzaki... did you hear that? They just mentioned a Shinigami."
L stopped chewing on his thumb. A rare, genuine look of surprise crossed his face. "The puzzle is finally coming together, Light-kun. We have them."
