The shadows gathered faster.
They crawled across the floor like spilled ink, curling around Noctis's boots before climbing higher.
Rin stared at him.
For some reason, the sight didn't frighten him as much as it should have. Maybe it was because of everything Noctis had just told him.
Maybe it was because of the strange memories still flickering behind his eyes. Or maybe...
It was because Noctis looked sad.
Not dangerous. Not powerful. Just sad.
"Wait."
Rin took a step forward. Noctis opened his eyes.
"You shouldn't stay."
"I don't care."
"You will when Kaelith enters."
"...Probably."
A faint smile appeared on Noctis's lips.
"There you are."
"What?"
"The Rin I remember."
Rin frowned.
"You're really obsessed with saying things that make absolutely no sense."
"I've had centuries of practice."
"That's not a good excuse."
"No."
Noctis glanced toward the door. The footsteps were getting closer. Much closer. Rin heard Kaelith shouting his name again.
