The other servants aside Becca and Edna moved around the room. I stood before the tall mirror, watching their reflections drift across the glass.
They had braided my hair up again, leaving my neck and shoulders bare. I had been dressed in a beautiful silver dress, the fabric smooth as it fell against my skin. It was loose and fitted at the same time, but my back was exposed.
My focus shifted to something more important.
Earlier today, after focusing in that garden, I had truly reached into myself. And I had found something waiting.
The energy felt ancient and alive, pulsing deep within my chest like a second heartbeat.
It didn't feel entirely like mine.
That was the terrifying part.
Something that had slipped inside me and was pretending to belong to me.
The sensation had terrified me. It still did. But I had pushed past the fear and tried to understand it regardless.
I couldn't control it yet. Though, when I had really focused, it had subtly responded.
