A searing heat flared up within my chest and raged outward, spreading through my veins like wildfire. I staggered. My hand flew to the nearest vine infested wall for support.
"Hiln?!"
Becca's panicked voice reached me through the haze. My breath came in shallow, desperate wheezes. I clutched my chest tighter, trying to breathe, trying to think—
The pain intensified for one blinding moment. And then shifted.
Within seconds, the heat subdued to a pleasant warmth. It rushed through my body like something soothing and rich, pulsing through me in slow, steady waves.
"Hiln, what's wrong?" Becca grabbed my arm.
"I'm fine." I straightened, briefly closing my eyes to steady myself. "Just give me a moment, please."
