Clearly, Zane Hawthorne wasn't good at being direct.
And Zoe Rhodes had rarely seen him be so direct.
After Zane said, "I missed you so much," time seemed to freeze. The two of them stared at each other in silence for a long while before both looked away.
One looked up at the sky, the other looked down at the ground.
Zoe scratched her head. After thinking for a long time, she finally managed to stammer, "H-Have you eaten?"
Zane's gaze fell on her again. "No."
Zoe's mind raced. She pointed toward the cafeteria. "Um, well... should we go get something to eat first?"
"Or if there's something you want to eat, we can go off-campus."
Finally, she gave an awkward smile and said generously, "My treat!"
Zane stared at her, his expression unreadable, for a long moment before finally saying, "Let's go off-campus."
He didn't like crowded places.
He much preferred being alone with Zoe Rhodes.
Ideally, they would be the only two people left in the world.
