Donovan Donovan raised an eyebrow, instinctively turning his head and body.
But at this distance, no matter how fast his reaction, there was no way to dodge completely.
The hard knuckles scraped across his cheekbone, and Donovan Donovan felt a sharp sting of pain immediately.
'It's over,' was his first thought. 'I can't be seen in public!'
He'd just recently managed to crawl out from under the gloom of his "broken heart" and was even thinking of trying to get the Emperor's favor again.

Donovan Donovan raised his hand, blocking Zane Hawthorne's second punch, and clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"That's enough."
The man stood sideways by the tea room door, one hand in his pocket, the other gripping his opponent's fist. A casual smile played on his lips, as if he weren't the one who had just been hit.
Zane Hawthorne acted as if he hadn't heard him. He quickly wrenched his hand free, grabbed Donovan's collar, and slammed him forcefully against the wall.
