The old woman smiled and gestured for her to sit. As Kane brought in hot tea, all the other servants withdrew.
The two of them, grandmother and granddaughter, had long since stopped pretending with each other. The old woman looked at her, and the thought that she had actually married Silas Thorne sent a flare of anger through her. She forced a smile. "You and Silas Thorne… you're married?"
"Mm."
Joyce had also bought some of her grandmother's favorite pastries and placed them on the table.
"How thoughtful of you," the old woman said with a smile. Both of them were merely feigning civility. "When did you get married? And you didn't even tell me."
"Two years ago."
"..."
'Married for two years already?'
'The whole family probably knew, and I was the only one left in the dark. Are they playing me for a fool?'
"For you to actually take the initiative to have me brought back… I must say I'm surprised," the old woman said, her smile not reaching her eyes.
