"Are you fucking crazy?!"
"Two lives, you can't get away with this! I'm calling the police right now!"
Megan Kane couldn't be bothered with Jason Forrester anymore.
She screamed for help as she turned and ran.
Megan Kane made a decision. It didn't matter if she could never go back.
She had to stay far, far away from Jason Forrester, or she would die.
"Your parents are calling."
Jason Forrester's tone was completely flat.
From the other end of the video call came the pleading voices of Megan Kane's parents.
"Is it money you want?"
"As long as you don't hurt us, we'll give it to you."
Megan Kane gritted her teeth, turned around, and flipped him the bird. "Only a coward backs down! If you've got the balls, go ahead and kill them."
"If you don't, you're not a real man."
Megan Kane figured that no matter how powerful and well-connected Jason Forrester was, he couldn't possibly get away with so many murders.
"Megan Kane, are you even human? We're your parents!"
"And now you want your man to kill us? Kill us so the two of you can get away scot-free?"
"We approve of your marriage! We hope you two are tied together forever, and have nothing to do with us anymore!"
Mr. and Mrs. Kane never imagined their daughter would sell them out the moment the call connected.
So, there was no reason to hold back. They'd just sell out their daughter in return.
"Stay, or die. I don't want to waste my breath arguing with you."
"Woman, my patience has its limits. Don't test me again."
Jason Forrester's tone was utterly sinister.
Megan Kane felt like her world was collapsing. Jason Forrester, the unhinged male lead of this novel, suffered from depression.
And he had a possessive, dangerously obsessive streak, too.
In the end, it was supposed to be Blair White who touched his heart and made him see the error of his ways.
As long as Blair White was by his side, he could be as gentle as a normal person and would never lose control of his emotions.
But now Blair White was unconscious, Liam Forrester had been knocked out by Megan Kane's own hands, and the plot was going completely off the rails.
Rowan Monroe, her legendary best friend who was supposed to have shown up earlier, was nowhere to be found.
As for her dear parents, they were like clay idols crossing a river—unable to even save themselves.
They were ready to disown their own daughter; nothing was more important than saving their own skins.
Everything was spiraling in an unimaginable direction.
Just like the romantic storyline between the two of them that never should have existed, which was now growing uncontrollably.
Megan Kane honestly couldn't tell if the man before her had temporarily fallen in love and lost his grip on reality, or if he'd just completely lost his mind.
'I absolutely cannot give up now,' she thought. 'I have to work hard to get the original plot back on track.'
"Mr. Forrester, I can stay, but I have a condition."
"I want Miss White and Rowan Monroe to be able to stay here in this mansion as well."
"They're like sisters to me. I can't just abandon them to enjoy this wealth all by myself. It would go against my conscience."
"I hope you can show some respect for my wishes. Thank you."
Megan Kane didn't know if Jason Forrester would agree to her request.
But she was truly trying her best to steer the plot back to its original course.
"Three times a day. I agree. How about it? Shall we have a pleasant cooperation?"
Jason Forrester had a smile on his face, the cage of his trap already set.
He had plenty of ways to ensure the woman before him couldn't escape, even if she grew wings.
The more Megan Kane wanted to run, the more he would ensure she couldn't.
So Jason Forrester planned to personally lay a muddy swamp for her, one that would pull her deeper and deeper, ensuring she could never escape.
"I accept your terms. And about my dear parents..."
It wasn't that Megan Kane was trying to push her luck; she just figured that with more people in this cold, empty mansion, she wouldn't be the first one to die if things went south.
Jason Forrester raised an eyebrow and held up his fingers to show a number.
Overjoyed, Megan Kane broke into a smile and nodded at him.
"Seeing as I'm such a filial daughter, you'll reduce it to just once a day, right? In that case, I'll go get my parents right now. I'll go pick them up myself. How about it?"
"I never thought my filial piety would fail to move heaven and earth, yet succeed in moving you, President Forrester."
"It seems you've been truly wronged all these years, President Forrester. The rumors out there must all be fake. How could a great man like you possibly lack a conscience and a sense of filial duty?"
"I'll definitely use my biggest social media account to sway public opinion and clear your name of all these false accusations!"
The joy on Megan Kane's face was impossible to hide, but the man's next words completely extinguished the roaring flames of hope within her.
"If you're sick, go get your head checked. I meant ten times a day."
"What does you bringing your parents here have to do with me?"
"Filial piety moving heaven and earth? You? The only thing your craziness will move is a bolt of lightning from the heavens to strike you dead."
Jason Forrester shook his head, then slowly ambled back and said with a frown,
"You can go out for two hours every day. I'll arrange for four bodyguards to follow you. If you dare to run..."
"...then I'm terribly sorry, but I'll have to sacrifice your entire family to the heavens."
"I hope you'll take my words to heart."
"The one thing I hate most is people who go back on their word. Since I've agreed to your conditions, you can only agree to mine."
Jason Forrester straightened his collar, his earlier unhinged energy completely gone. He strode away with an air of arrogance, leaving to attend a family banquet.
As for the chaotic scene he left behind, that wasn't his problem to deal with.
"Young Master! How could you die so young?!"
The butler stumbled over, cradled Liam Forrester's head, and started sobbing uncontrollably.
Megan Kane felt goosebumps rise all over her skin. 'Is there a single normal person in this entire mansion?'
Deciding to be a good person and see it through, she took out her phone and called for an ambulance.
She had no idea when it would arrive, though.
But she was in a great mood now. At least she wouldn't have to face tomorrow's blue sky all by herself.
After a wait of about three hours, three half-dead figures were standing at the door, their expressions so dejected they looked one step away from jumping into a river.
"My dearest bestie, my dear Mom and Dad! I knew you couldn't bear to part with me, and I couldn't bear to part with you either! So let's share this life of wealth and luxury together!"
"From now on, you're in charge of spending money! It doesn't matter anyway. Jason Forrester has plenty of it, so go wild!"
Megan Kane welcomed the three inside, her face beaming with joy.
Mr. Kane was trembling from head to toe. "Daughter, will we even live long enough to spend that money?"
"After I got here, I asked around. Just among the partners who've worked with Jason Forrester, three have already died."
"I heard he's cursed to be alone and brings death to those around him! Those three partners—one jumped off a building, one jumped into a river, and one jumped off a bridge."
Mr. Kane looked like he was about to burst into tears.
He felt the worst luck in his life was inexplicably ending up in the one place he never wanted to be.
"Stop talking, stop talking."
"What I heard is even more terrifying than what you found out! They say no woman who enters his house survives for more than a month!"
"I'm still so young! My dearest bestie, I really don't want to enjoy this luxurious life! I'll even pay you! Can you please just send me back?"
Rowan Monroe looked like she was about to cry. She didn't like Jason Forrester anymore. She was done with romance.
She wanted to go home.
