At 9:00 PM, Iris Dalton finally finished writing her self-criticism and diary, then completed the worksheets from all her teachers in just ten minutes.

She went downstairs to the kitchen to find something to eat and saw Leona Vaughn and Vivian Morton sitting on the living room sofa, looking like they were waiting for her.
The moment Leona Vaughn saw Iris come downstairs, she quickly had a maid prepare a meal. She smiled gently. "Iris, dear, have some warm soup first. And the papaya dessert—it's been simmering all afternoon."
"Did you need me for something?" Iris asked as the steaming dishes, along with the soup and papaya dessert, were placed before her. She sat primly and began to eat.
"I know all about what happened at school today," Leona said. "What Milo Monahan did was wrong, but the Sherwood and Monahan families are joined by marriage and business. Our ties run too deep to be broken..."
