Split Stone Pass.
The ruins of the collapsed mine lay like a giant scar deep within the pass. Under the crack of overseers' whips, slaves still labored numbly, hauling heavy stones with hunched backs.
At the edge of the camp, a tent flap was violently thrown open. Several human Mercenaries stumbled out backward, their faces filled with fear. Cursing under their breath, they quickly vanished down the path leading away from the camp.
Lord Bone's massive figure ducked out of the tent. With his brawny arms crossed over his chest, he watched the Mercenaries flee and let out a low snort.
"They took the Legion's bounty, botched the job, and still have the nerve to ask for more. Humans are more thick-skinned than a fortress wall."
A goblin Shaman in a filthy robe hastily sidled up to him, rubbing his hands together and chuckling obsequiously. "You're right. Those humans can't be trusted at all."
