"Alright, I won't hold it against him."
Only after receiving Jace's promise did Phoebe's anxious heart finally settle. "Thank you," she said, her voice hoarse.
"There's no need for thanks between us." Jace kissed the ends of Phoebe's hair. "Silly girl, once you have our baby, we'll be husband and wife. Why would a husband and wife ever need to thank each other?"
Phoebe didn't understand. 'Why do we have to wait until after the baby is born to get married?'
'Before this, she'd never once considered marrying Jace. For a while, she'd even thought about giving up on having the baby. But she had to admit, the man was exceptional. So exceptional that when he treated her with such tenderness, her heart would race, and she'd feel a sense of bliss, of being cherished.'
'Aside from his occasional bad temper, he was perfect in every other way.'
