After eating and washing up, she climbed into bed. She opened her laptop. It was already past eight o'clock, but Henry Lester still hadn't returned.
She looked up some information and pulled out a few old case files. She then contacted her old professor to discuss how to handle the remaining unresolved cases.
After finishing her work, she had just stretched lazily when her phone rang.
'Brian Chapman?'
"Hello."
"I'm... really sorry about the other day..." Brian Chapman's voice was hesitant, his words vague, as if there was something he couldn't bring himself to say. After a long pause, he added with great sincerity, "Anyway, I'm very sorry!"
"Apology accepted. To be honest, I ran into some people I'd rather have avoided that day, so I left without saying anything."
"People you'd rather have avoided?" Brian Chapman went quiet for a moment, muttering to himself.
