'If anyone should be crying, it's me.'
Yara Quillan pulled her hand from Henry Lester's, then started to count her fingers out of boredom.
Then, she heard someone push the door open and whisper a few words to Henry Lester. In any case, she couldn't hear them.
Henry Lester's expression returned to normal. He said to her, "Honey, get some rest. I need to step out for a moment."
Yara Quillan knew a nurse would be in soon. They were like wardens, watching her day in and day out.
'I wonder if Ian Zimmerman has managed to contact my brother.'
Yara Quillan pouted and went back to counting her fingers. She believed her brother would come rescue her, that he would get her out of here.
'From now on, I won't have to see Henry Lester anymore. I won't have to hear his voice.'
'And my heart won't have to hurt anymore.'
'How wonderful that would be.'
At this thought, Yara Quillan smiled, a laugh as innocent as a child's.
