Yara Quillan smiled. *This* was the Henry Lester she knew.
She actually hated it when he feigned weakness in front of her. It made her resolve waver. But now, she couldn't afford to go soft anymore.
"Let me go." This wasn't the first time Yara Quillan had said those words.
Henry Lester's hand trembled, his grip on Yara Quillan's tightening. He knew that if he let her go this time, his darling would truly be gone, never to return.
"Darling, you know that's impossible," Henry Lester said softly, stroking Yara's hair as he always did.
Yara Quillan felt she was a lunatic, and Henry Lester was one, too.
Lying there, she ultimately chose silence.
This was her form of protest—a silent one. She would become completely compliant, no longer speaking. Doctors came daily to treat her eyes, and she would obediently let them do as they pleased.
