The man who'd been kicked immediately doubled over in pain. The moment they saw things going south, the group of thugs and his cronies swarmed forward to surround Yara Quillan.
'I've seen unlucky, but I've never seen *this* unlucky.'
Yara Quillan had said she didn't want to come to a place like this. She had an inexplicable aversion to bars, a feeling she couldn't quite put her finger on.
Even if her fighting skills had grown rusty over the years—most of her time now dedicated to medical research and handling snakes—Yara Quillan wasn't about to just stand there and let this mob beat her up.
Besides, before she even had to make a move, a small, vibrantly colored creature coiled around her body suddenly lunged forward, sinking its fangs into one of the men about to attack her.
The man at the front who'd been bitten instantly clutched his hand, letting out a shrill scream. His complexion turned increasingly ghastly, and he finally collapsed, foaming at the mouth.
