'What a high-and-mighty excuse, completely skirting the real issue.'
'She claims to be apologizing, but she's really just scared of my connections. There isn't a shred of remorse in her heart.'
'She must resent me deeply and is just being forced to apologize.'
Evelyn Grant smiled sardonically. "Was it being late, or was it traffic? Do we need to get a few more people in here to help you get your story straight?"
The manager's expression stiffened.
She had hoped to bluff her way through, but now she could only lower her head reluctantly. "Please, don't be angry. I was being presumptuous, getting ahead of myself and making malicious assumptions about you, Miss Grant. I will be sure to rein myself in from now on and treat you and the staff with the respect you deserve. For all the things I said, I sincerely apologize to you."
She lowered her voice. "This is all my fault. I'm sorry, Miss Grant."
