Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: You're hired

One day On a cloudy day in Seoul city, Nayeon Park was job hunting online because her cousin Haerin, had told her, "Nayeon, you're a full grown twenty-four year old woman and I can't keep providing for you. You have to get out into the world and face reality."

Nayeon groaned loudly when she remember what Haerin had said to her. She used to live with her elder sister and her niece until now. Nayeon didn't want to get any job at all but because Haerin had threatened her that if she didn't, she would throw her out with nothing.

Nayeon was entering job applications with Haerin's desktop in the small living room. She had been doing the same thing since seven o'clock in the morning until three-thirty in the afternoon.

"Ugh, I can't do this anymore!" Nayeon exclaimed. "I'm supposed to live a soft life like those tiktokers, they are even about the same age as me yet they're that rich!"

Haerin suddenly barged into the living room upon hearing that.

"Nayeon, at least be grateful that you have a place to live!" She yelled.

"Be grateful about this tiny apartment? I don't think so. There are so many people with the same age as us but they are billionaires, isn't life unfair?"

"Nayeon... There are people out there who are suffering more than us. At least the apartment is clean and we have somewhere nice to accommodate ourselves."

"Nice you say? Have you seen Eunseo's mansion? Her father runs a multi-millionaire Internet company! Her house is like the whole of Seoul."

"Isn't Eunseo Yun your best friend?"

"She is, why do you ask?"

"Why must you envy even your best friend, Nayeon. You have known her since childhood and you guys were inseparable."

"But i have always felt inferior to her, even when my parents were still alive."

"Nayeon, contentment is the best thing that anyone could ever have. When your parents were alive I used to visit you, Minju and my uncle every blessed week. I remember how my uncle, your father would take us out to the best restaurants in Seoul whenever his salary came. My parents were always busy with themselves, so I had you guys as a second family. That time, i remember your mother was fighting cancer and your father was devastated when she didn't make it. What I'm trying to say is-"

"No! Don't say anything anymore, Haerin! I won't listen to your useless lectures anymore. All I want is to have a happy life but I'm always behind everyone!"

Haerin reached out for Nayeon but then she held back quickly.

"I understand, Nayeon." Haerin said as she approached the front door. "I going to work, see you in the evening."

Haerin slammed the door behind her as she left, and as Nayeon heard her footsteps fade she fell to the floor and broke into tears.

"This isn't the kind of life I want, it just isn't enough for me!" Nayeon said to herself.

Later that evening at around eight, Nayeon was still job hunting. She suddenly came across a job as an employee at a water company. As it being her last resort for the day, Nayeon reluctantly applied for the job.

She then fell asleep.

Nayeon woke up to a notification sound from the desktop. She had gotten an email. In the email, it said that she had been hired!

Nayeon rubbed her eyes to see if she was hallucinating. "This can't be... Not even a job interview and I've already been hired!?"

It was the water company that hired her as an employee. They said that she could start work tomorrow morning. Nayeon was glad that she had finally gotten a job. "At least, Haerin will stop nagging me." Nayeon said with relieve.

Haerin was overjoyed when she heard about Nayeon's acceptance as an employee. She organised some appropriate clothing for her ro wear on her first day of work.
