Evelyn Grant was tired from playing. She and Rick trailed after a servant to get cleaned up. Rick seemed to adore her, sticking close by her side wherever she went.
Preston Keaton and Henry Sterling were drinking tea in the garden gazebo. Wisps of steam rose, shrouding Preston's face. His features were sharply chiseled and handsome, looking almost severe when he was expressionless. He had a noble bearing, and his eyes were a deep, bottomless black.
He was aloof yet intensely magnetic; merely sitting there, he was utterly captivating.
Evelyn Grant sat down next to Preston Keaton. Rick, also tired, lay down to rest by Henry Sterling's legs.
When she first approached, she saw Henry Sterling's grave expression and assumed they were discussing something important. It was only when she got close enough to hear that she realized it was just a doting father who couldn't bear to be parted from his "son."
