Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The First Crack

The date was approaching.

Slowly.

Silently.

Inevitably.

Kang Joon-Ho didn't rush it.

He never would.

Patience… was now his greatest weapon.

The next morning felt no different from any other.

He woke up early.

Exercised.

Showered.

Dressed.

Routine.

Perfect. Controlled routine.

But today—

There was a slight change.

"System," Joon-Ho spoke internally.

"Active."

"Begin Phase One."

A brief pause.

Then—

"Phase One: Initiated."

"Objective: Destabilize Target."

Joon-Ho adjusted his tie, his reflection staring back at him.

Calm.

Sharp.

Ready.

"Start with her support system."

"Acknowledged."

Office.

Joon-Ho sat at his desk, typing steadily.

To anyone watching, he looked like the same quiet employee.

Unremarkable.

Forgettable.

But behind the screen—

A different story unfolded.

Emails.

Anonymous tips.

Carefully crafted messages.

Not lies.

Never lies.

Just… truth.

Placed in the right hands.

"Data leak executed."

"Recipient: Workplace Authority of Han Soo-Jin."

Joon-Ho's fingers didn't stop moving.

"Next."

"Financial irregularities forwarded."

"Secondary Target: Choi Sung-Hoon."

A small pause.

"Estimated impact: Initial disruption within 48 hours."

Joon-Ho leaned back slightly.

"Good."

That was the first strike.

Invisible.

Silent.

But precise.

Lunch break.

Lee Min-Kyu sat down again.

This time, he didn't hesitate.

"Alright, I'm asking directly," he said. "What are you doing?"

Joon-Ho didn't look up immediately.

He finished his bite.

Wiped his hands calmly.

Then—

"Working."

Min-Kyu frowned. "Don't do that."

"Do what?"

"Act like everything's normal."

Joon-Ho finally looked at him.

"It is normal."

"That's the problem!" Min-Kyu snapped quietly. "You lost your father… your marriage collapsed… your life got destroyed—and you're acting like it's just another day!"

Silence.

Then—

Joon-Ho spoke.

Softly.

Calmly.

"What do you want me to do?"

Min-Kyu froze.

"Break down?" Joon-Ho continued. "Cry? Scream? Blame someone?"

A slight tilt of his head.

"Will that fix anything?"

Min-Kyu clenched his jaw.

"No… but this—this isn't healthy either."

Joon-Ho's gaze didn't change.

"It's effective."

That answer ended the conversation.

Min-Kyu leaned back, frustrated.

"…I don't recognize you anymore."

Joon-Ho picked up his tray.

"You're not supposed to."

And once again—

He walked away.

Evening.

Joon-Ho sat in his room.

Laptop open.

Eyes focused.

A notification appeared.

"Phase One Update:"

"Target Response Detected."

"Show me."

The screen shifted.

Han Soo-Jin.

Office building.

Tense expression.

Arguing with someone.

Joon-Ho watched silently.

Another clip.

Choi Sung-Hoon.

Phone call.

Angry.

Defensive.

"Workplace suspicion increased."

"Financial audit initiated."

Joon-Ho exhaled slowly.

"Just the beginning…"

"Correction: First crack formed."

A faint smile appeared.

"Yes."

The first crack.

Not enough to destroy them.

But enough to shake them.

To make them uncomfortable.

To make them afraid.

Joon-Ho stood up and walked toward the window.

The night was quiet.

Peaceful.

Just like before a storm.

His reflection stared back at him.

Unchanged on the outside.

But inside—

Everything was different.

"They won't understand what's happening," he murmured.

A pause.

"Not yet."

Behind him, the system glowed softly.

[Phase One Progress: 22%]

[Target Stability: Decreasing]

Joon-Ho closed his eyes for a moment.

Then opened them again.

Cold.

Focused.

Unshaken.

"This is just the beginning."

And somewhere far away—

Without even realizing it—

Han Soo-Jin's world had already started to fall apart.
