Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Pressure Builds

The first crack never made a sound.

But its effects… were impossible to ignore.

Kang Joon-Ho watched quietly.

Waiting.

Observing.

Calculating.

He didn't need to act again immediately.

Because pressure, once applied correctly…

Would grow on its own.

"System, status."

"Phase One Progress: 41%."

"Target Stability: Decreasing rapidly."

"Details."

A brief pause.

Then—

"Primary Target: Han Soo-Jin."

"Workplace trust compromised."

"Internal investigation ongoing."

Joon-Ho's eyes remained calm.

"Secondary target."

"Choi Sung-Hoon."

"Financial audit escalated."

"External pressure increasing."

A faint nod.

Everything was moving exactly as planned.

No rush.

No mistakes.

At the office, whispers had started.

Low voices.

Curious glances.

Nothing direct.

But enough.

"Did you hear about someone from finance being investigated?"

"I don't know… but something's definitely going on."

Joon-Ho walked past them.

Uninterested.

Uninvolved.

Invisible.

Just the way he wanted.

Lee Min-Kyu noticed it too.

Of course he did.

During lunch, he leaned closer.

"Something weird is happening lately," he said.

Joon-Ho continued eating.

"Things happen."

Min-Kyu frowned. "Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about."

Silence.

Then—

"I don't."

The lie came out perfectly.

No hesitation.

No emotion.

Min-Kyu stared at him for a few seconds.

Then sighed.

"…You've gotten really good at that."

"At what?"

"Pretending."

Joon-Ho looked at him.

"Not pretending."

A pause.

"Just choosing what matters."

That answer didn't comfort him.

It made things worse.

Min-Kyu leaned back, shaking his head.

"I don't know what you're doing… but it doesn't feel right."

Joon-Ho picked up his glass of water.

Took a slow sip.

"Right and wrong don't matter."

Min-Kyu's expression hardened slightly.

"Since when?"

Joon-Ho placed the glass down.

"Since it stopped changing outcomes."

That ended it.

Again.

Every conversation now felt like hitting a wall.

Cold.

Unmovable.

Evening.

Joon-Ho returned home.

The house was quiet, but not empty anymore.

His mother was sitting in the living room.

Looking at the same photograph.

His father's.

"Joon-Ho…" she called softly.

He walked over.

"Hmm?"

She hesitated.

Then—

"Are you… really okay?"

The question lingered.

Heavy.

Honest.

Joon-Ho looked at her.

For a moment…

Something flickered.

Something human.

But it disappeared just as quickly.

"I'm fine."

She didn't look convinced.

"You don't talk much anymore."

"I talk when needed."

"That's not what I mean…"

Her voice trembled slightly.

"I'm your mother."

Silence.

Joon-Ho's gaze softened… just a little.

"I know."

"Then don't shut me out."

Another pause.

Longer this time.

Then—

"I'm not."

A lie.

But a gentle one.

She sighed quietly.

Not arguing.

Not pushing further.

Because deep down…

She knew.

Something had changed in her son.

Something she couldn't reach anymore.

"I just don't want to lose you too," she whispered.

That made him stop.

Completely.

For a second—

Time froze.

Then—

"I won't go anywhere," Joon-Ho said.

Calm.

Steady.

Certain.

But inside—

Something shifted.

Very slightly.

After dinner, he returned to his room.

Closed the door.

Sat down.

"System."

"Active."

There was a brief silence before he spoke again.

"…Emotional interference."

"Detected: Minor."

Joon-Ho's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Cause?"

"Family interaction."

A pause.

Then—

"Suppress it."

"Warning: Complete suppression may affect long-term stability."

"I don't care."

Silence.

Then—

"Acknowledged."

A cold sensation spread through him.

Familiar now.

Comfortable.

Everything unnecessary… pushed aside.

Again.

His expression returned to normal.

No hesitation.

No disturbance.

"Continue report."

"Phase One nearing completion."

"Recommendation: Prepare Phase Two."

Joon-Ho leaned back.

"Define Phase Two."

"Target: Psychological Collapse."

"Method: Direct Pressure + Controlled Exposure."

A faint smile appeared.

Cold.

Sharp.

"Good."

He stood up and walked toward the window.

The city lights flickered below.

Unaware.

Unprepared.

"They're starting to feel it now…"

A pause.

"The pressure."

Behind him, the system updated.

[Phase One Progress: 58%]

[Target Stress Level: High]

Joon-Ho closed his eyes briefly.

Then opened them.

Clear.

Focused.

Unshaken.

"But it's not enough."

His voice dropped slightly.

"Not yet."

Because cracks weren't enough.

He didn't want to shake their world.

He wanted to break it.

Completely.

And that…

Was coming next.
