"What's wrong?" Jayce asked. He glanced at Nathan Thorne but made no move to get up.
Nathan didn't mind. They had known each other for so long that they were already incredibly close; there was absolutely no need to stand on ceremony.
He walked over to the opposite sofa and sat down. "My mom finally stopped obsessing over getting me married and having kids, but now she plans to open an orphanage. She says she wants to take in children who have lost their parents, or those who have parents but are being mistreated."
He rubbed his temples vigorously.
"If this were before the apocalypse, it really wouldn't be a big deal. It would just cost a bit of money, and she could do whatever she wanted. But now? Any child who has managed to survive until today is no ordinary child.
"You guys have seen what my mom's personality is like. If she really goes and opens this orphanage, she'll probably be eaten alive without a single crumb left."
