ELARA POV
Raya cleared her throat and walked toward me, standing right in front of me.
"You've done something nobody could do and still come out of that room. That is how he operates. He tries to push every scientist away by mind linking with them. He did it with you now, and you did not even flinch. Do you know what that means? Do you even know the potential you hold? If you could just get more information on him," she said as deep within me, I couldn't help but feel a knot in my chest.
Everything I had predicted, everything I had expected, was exactly what she was doing at this point. Like I could already tell she was going to do it. They were so predictable. They saw I had potential, and they were ready to go to any length to make sure I gave them what they wanted.
"Oh, now I understand. He cannot work with any of the scientists. And you saw potential in me because of what? You don't even know me. You knew Marcus more than you knew me. I wasn't even working in your company before this. But he was. Why couldn't he do it?" I said, trying to understand why they wanted me so badly.
But he was saying something, right? With how serious he looked, I could tell he meant every word he said. And that meant they wanted something specific. Marcus is a man. A man cannot confront another man and expect to get something from it. They both have anger issues. They are just going to fight each other. And of course, Marcus would end up in danger. And then what? Our company would be blacklisted?
"Investigate him fully. We cannot even find out who exactly he is," she said as I stood up, now face to face with her.
"What do you want me to do, Ms. Raya? I don't know why you three have been beating around the bush. Do I need to see the head of the company or what? I need a clear position on what exactly I am meant to do with this man. I don't even know what I'm experimenting on. I don't even know where he comes from or where you caught him. You've limited that information from the person who is standing right in front of him. Do you even know what he's capable of doing to me? He literally hears everything. Do you know he has far-hearing capabilities? Do you have any information on that, or did you never know?" I said to her as she smiled.
"We know all about his capabilities, what he can do and what he cannot do. And honestly, we don't mind. He knows we want something from him. Why can't he just let it out since he won't do it the way we want it?" she said as I quickly raised my hand to correct her.
"No, don't say 'the way you wanted it.' There's a statement he made: humans will never change. Do you know why? Whenever we want something, we believe we are the only species in this world who are right and who have complete sense about what to do. But we don't. He is a king. Wherever he comes from, do you think he is dumb? He can literally pass as any human, and nobody would find out. He is more human than any of us can ever be. Do you know why? Because he does not torture everything. You guys want to experiment. You always torture animals. That is the reason why I told you I won't stick to something I don't believe in. And one thing I don't believe in, my number one rule, is that an animal is not supposed to be tortured before it can obey.
"I will prove to you that he is a good person, whether he is animal or human. Whatever form he desires to show me, he is decent and good. You want him to be vulnerable, right? I will do that. But after that, please, I beg you, do not do something we will all regret. They have been keeping themselves hidden for ages. They clearly have a reason for that. Don't let us be the reason they come out. I beg you," I said to her, not even waiting for a response.
I stepped out, but the moment I shut the door, I collapsed against the wall, clutching my chest. I couldn't believe I had said all those things to her. What if I had lost my job at that moment? I tried to act composed as the guards looked at me strangely. Just then, I heard from inside the room,
"She is falling exactly into the trap. Very soon they will have a connection, and then she will have no choice but to get us what we want," she said as I stood up.
They also had plans, and they were using me. They knew I couldn't torture him. They knew I would try to get close to him. I decided to pretend I had not heard anything, and I immediately walked off, heading back to my locker.
Since that was everything for today, I didn't think I could go back to that lab and face him again. I was soon clad in my normal clothes. As I walked away, I passed the passageway to the lab and heard my name. I stopped, knowing he was trying to mind link with me again. I thought he said it was something that could only happen once.
I looked at the passage, and there was nothing. The guards were standing there, one of them looking at me, confused. I wanted to walk away.
"My name is Kael, Alpha Kael," he said.
What? He had shared his name with me. What was I getting myself into? Or was he playing another trick on me?
