ELERA'S POV
The air in the lab felt ten degrees colder than usual. I stood perfectly still, my eyes glued to the metal examination table in the center of the room.
Lying there, completely unconscious, was the woman.
My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. It was her. It was the exact same woman who had used some kind of twisted illusion to copy my ex's face, the one who had practically begged for my help not long ago. Seeing her like this, stripped of her disguise and completely defenseless, sent a chill straight down my spine.
Raya stepped up beside me, her high heels clicking sharply against the floor. She crossed her arms, a slow, predatory smile spreading across her lips as she leaned in close.
"Does she look familiar to you, Elara?" Raya asked, her voice dripping with curiosity.
I forced my face to remain completely blank, swallowing the lump of panic in my throat. I knew how Axiom Biotech worked.
