The second exit led into a narrow passage between two buildings. Ava checked both ends before leading them towards a flight of stairs, with Corin bringing up the rear.
Frost followed without speaking. His thigh hurt whenever he bent his leg, but he wasn't about to ask them to slow down while law enforcement was searching for them.
They climbed to a covered walkway overlooking a busy street. It was difficult to believe people were enjoying their evening so close to where he had nearly been killed.
Ava stopped them before they reached the other end.
An enforcement vehicle passed beneath the walkway, its bright lamps sweeping across the storefronts. Frost crouched behind the railing with the others, waiting until the sound of its engine faded.
"Are they blocking the district?" Talia asked.
"Probably," Ava replied. "We won't be using the main roads."
