Chapter 109 - octagram spy

The spy gasped for air as Feng finally loosened his grip and released him.

Feng's voice was low and cold, carrying an unmistakable warning.

"If you try to escape, I will kill you. Don't try it. I still have things to ask you."

The spy nodded frantically, too terrified to speak.

Feng turned away and walked back to Lina without another word. He gently helped her stand, supporting her weight as she clutched the small, lifeless bodies of Suki and Shihao to her chest. Lina's tears wouldn't stop. She sobbed quietly, her whole body trembling.

Feng's face remained mostly calm, but silent tears rolled down his cheeks as they left the blood-soaked training ground. The adventurers and guild staff parted silently to let them pass, none daring to speak.

It was already dark when they returned to The Healing Lantern inn.

The innkeeper and his family had heard the news and cleared a quiet room for them. Lina refused to let go of the children. She sat on the bed, holding both bodies close, crying softly without pause.

Feng sat beside her, one arm around her shoulders. He didn't sob loudly, but the tears kept falling steadily from his eyes as he stared at his dead son and daughter.

After a long silence, he spoke quietly.

"We need to bury them tomorrow."

Lina nodded through her tears, her voice broken.

"…Yes."

They stayed like that through the night — sitting together in the dim room, beside the two small bodies, grief weighing heavily on both of them. The inn was silent around them, the celebration from earlier now replaced by mourning.

Outside, the holy city slept under its protective divine light, unaware of the quiet tragedy unfolding inside the inn.

Feng and Lina remained awake for most of the night, holding each other and their lost children, preparing their hearts for the burial that would come with the dawn.
