Chapter 33 - Chapter 33

A Name That Feels Like Home

Morning arrived quietly in Greenwood Village.

Soft sunlight slipped through the wooden window of Arjun's farmhouse, touching the simple room with gentle warmth. Outside, the sound of roosters crowing mixed with the rustling of leaves in the cool breeze.

Inside the small guest room, Maya slowly opened her eyes.

For a moment, she did not move.

She simply stared at the ceiling, listening to the peaceful sounds around her.

Everything felt calm.

Safe.

Different from the cold darkness she remembered from the forest.

She sat up slowly and looked around the room.

The wooden walls looked clean and warm. A small clay pot filled with fresh flowers rested on the table beside the bed. Sunlight touched the petals, making them glow softly.

A faint smile appeared on her face.

Someone had placed those flowers there.

Someone cared.

At the same time, in the courtyard outside, Arjun was already working.

He carried two heavy buckets of water from the well and poured them carefully into the irrigation channel that led toward his vegetable field.

Drops of water sparkled in the morning light as they flowed across the soil.

Arjun wiped sweat from his forehead and looked toward the farmhouse door.

He wondered if Maya had woken up.

A strange feeling stayed in his chest since yesterday.

A feeling he had never experienced before.

Concern.

Curiosity.

And something deeper.

Something warm.

Just then, the wooden door opened slowly.

Maya stepped outside.

She wore the same simple white dress, now neatly cleaned and dried. Her long dark hair rested gently on her shoulders, shining softly under the sunlight.

Arjun paused.

For a brief moment, he forgot what he was doing.

She looked peaceful.

Gentle.

Almost like she belonged to this place.

Maya noticed him staring and gave a shy smile.

"Good morning," she said softly.

Her voice carried a quiet warmth.

Arjun quickly looked away, slightly embarrassed.

"Good morning," he replied.

They stood silently for a few seconds.

Neither of them knew what to say next.

The air felt calm but slightly awkward.

Finally, Maya spoke again.

"You woke up early," she said.

Arjun nodded.

"Farmers always do," he answered.

A small smile appeared on his face.

"And now you are part of a farmer's morning."

Maya looked around the wide field.

Rows of green plants stretched across the land. Birds flew low over the crops, searching for seeds. The soft smell of fresh soil filled the air.

"It's beautiful," she whispered.

Her eyes shone with wonder.

"I've never seen a place like this before."

Arjun watched her quietly.

Something about the way she looked at the field felt honest.

Pure.

Like she was seeing the world for the first time.

"If you want," he said gently,

"I can show you how everything works."

Maya turned toward him quickly.

Her expression brightened.

"I would like that," she replied.

A few minutes later, they walked side by side through the field.

Arjun explained each section carefully.

"This is the rice field," he said, pointing to the tall green plants.

"And over there are tomatoes and beans."

Maya listened closely.

She touched the leaves gently, feeling their texture.

Her fingers moved slowly across the plants, almost as if she was greeting them.

Suddenly—

A soft breeze passed through the field.

The leaves around her hand rustled gently.

Then something unusual happened.

One small flower that had been drooping slowly lifted its head.

Its petals straightened.

Its color brightened.

Maya blinked in surprise.

"Did you see that?" she asked.

Arjun looked at the plant.

"It must be the wind," he said casually.

But inside, he felt uncertain.

The movement had looked different.

Strange.

Almost intentional.

They continued walking.

The morning sun climbed higher in the sky, warming the land.

As they reached the edge of the field, Maya stopped suddenly.

Her eyes fixed on something in the distance.

"What is that building?" she asked.

She pointed toward a small wooden structure near the hill.

Arjun followed her gaze.

"Oh, that's the old barn," he explained.

"No one uses it anymore."

Maya stared at the building quietly.

A faint sense of familiarity touched her heart.

For a brief moment, images flashed inside her mind.

Bright light.

Strange symbols.

A voice calling her name.

Then—

The images disappeared.

Her head began to ache slightly.

She pressed her hand against her temple.

"Are you alright?" Arjun asked quickly.

Concern filled his voice.

Maya nodded slowly.

"I just felt… something strange," she said.

Her voice sounded uncertain.

Arjun stepped closer.

"If you feel tired, we can go back," he suggested gently.

Maya looked at him.

His eyes showed genuine care.

Not suspicion.

Not impatience.

Only kindness.

She felt a warm comfort spread through her chest.

"Thank you," she said softly.

Later that afternoon, clouds gathered slowly in the sky.

A cool wind moved across the fields, carrying the scent of rain.

Arjun worked near the barn, repairing a broken wooden fence.

Maya sat nearby, watching him quietly.

She admired the way he worked.

Strong.

Focused.

Patient.

Every movement looked careful and steady.

After a while, she spoke.

"You work very hard," she said.

Arjun smiled slightly.

"It's the only way to survive," he replied.

Then he paused.

"And to protect what matters."

Maya felt those words deeply.

Protect what matters.

The idea touched her heart in a way she could not explain.

Suddenly—

Thunder rumbled softly in the distance.

Dark clouds moved closer.

Rain began falling gently from the sky.

Arjun looked upward.

"We should go inside," he said.

They hurried toward the farmhouse together.

Rain fell harder, soaking the ground quickly.

As they reached the porch, Maya slipped slightly on the wet step.

Her balance shifted.

Her body leaned forward.

Before she could fall—

Arjun caught her.

His arms wrapped around her gently.

Their faces moved close.

Very close.

For a moment, time seemed to stop.

Rain fell around them.

The sound of thunder echoed softly in the sky.

But neither of them moved.

Neither of them spoke.

Maya felt her heart beating faster.

Her cheeks turned warm.

She looked into Arjun's eyes.

They looked calm.

Gentle.

Protective.

Arjun also felt the same strange warmth inside his chest.

A feeling stronger than before.

Something new.

Something meaningful.

Slowly, he released her.

"Are you hurt?" he asked softly.

Maya shook her head.

"No," she replied.

But her voice sounded slightly breathless.

That night, the rain continued outside.

Soft drops tapped gently against the roof of the farmhouse.

Inside, the warm glow of a lantern filled the room.

Arjun sat at the wooden table, repairing a tool.

Maya watched him quietly from across the room.

Her heart felt peaceful.

Safe.

Like she had finally found a place where she belonged.

As she prepared to sleep, she noticed something unusual again.

Her hand began to glow faintly.

Soft silver light appeared around her fingers.

The same mysterious glow from the previous night.

But this time—

It lasted longer.

And the small flower placed near her bed slowly bloomed wider.

Petals opened gently.

As if responding to her presence.

Maya stared at the glowing light in silent shock.

Fear mixed with wonder inside her heart.

Because deep down—

She knew this was not normal.

Not human.

Not ordinary.

And somewhere far beyond the village—

Hidden inside the dark forest—

A pair of unknown eyes suddenly opened.

Watching.

Waiting.

Searching.

As if they had finally sensed her presence.
