The story is about Isha Sengupta and Aishi Roy. Isha Sengupta is the spoiled daughter of a wealthy father, while Aishi belongs to a middle-class family.
In Aishi's house, there are her mother, father, and Aishi. They live quite happily with their small family. Aishi was also in a relationship, but she broke up with the boy a few days ago. Carrying the pain of that breakup, she was moving forward in life.
Aishi has just finished her higher secondary exams. Now she wishes to take Bengali Honours and get admitted to Rabindra Bharati University. So, right after her exams ended, she started looking for a good professor for Bengali Honours. After searching a lot, Aishi's father remembered one of his friends, who is also a professor. Immediately, her father, Sanjay Babu, called him and finalized everything. That friend's house is in College Street. Since Aishi's house is in Garia, it would be quite a long journey to travel back and forth.
After a few days, the Bengali classes started.
As usual, Aishi reached on time. She saw that the room was full of students, and there was hardly any space to sit. Suddenly, her eyes fell on a corner of the room where there was a little empty space. Somehow, she managed to squeeze in and sit there.
At that time, Aishi didn't notice who was sitting beside her. After a while, she looked at the person next to her. It was a girl, with headphones in her ears, looking down and scrolling on her phone. Aishi tried to see her face properly, but her face was completely covered by her hair, so it wasn't possible.
Meanwhile, the teacher entered the room. Everyone greeted him with "Good evening," and he replied the same. Aishi noticed that the girl beside her was still busy with her phone.
With good intention, Aishi tapped the girl on her shoulder and said, "Hey, listen, the teacher has come. Put your phone away now."
When the girl didn't respond, Aishi shook her a little harder.
The girl got angry, moved her hair away from her face, and said, "What's your problem? Why are you disturbing me? Mind your own business. Don't bother me. And why are you sitting next to me? Move away from here. If you want to sit, sit on the floor. You've practically climbed onto me! You've got quite the nerve. I don't know where such uncivilized people come from, no manners at all."
She kept saying all this continuously. Aishi felt very bad hearing those words. She only wanted to alert the girl so she would pay attention to the teacher, but she never imagined getting such harsh words in return.
However, despite feeling hurt, Aishi finally got to see the girl's face. She was stunned. The girl looked so enchanting—large, expressive eyes, a sharp nose, very fair skin, and extremely attractive pink lips with lip balm. In one word, she was stunning. Aishi couldn't take her eyes off her. The girl took a clip and started tying her hair, and Aishi kept watching. As the girl moved her hair aside, her long, slender neck became visible. Aishi kept staring at it, unable to look away.
Meanwhile, the teacher finished explaining and started asking questions. He noticed the two girls sitting in the corner were not paying attention. He asked them to stand up and said, "You two, stand up. I'm teaching here and you have no focus. Why waste so much money on studies if you won't pay attention? You're just wasting your parents' money. No carelessness in my class. Sit down quietly."
Both of them sat down silently.
After the class ended, everyone started leaving. Aishi was packing her books when she turned back once to look at the girl. She saw that the girl was still sitting there, unmoved. Without delaying further, Aishi left.
While walking down the road, Aishi kept thinking about why she was staring at that girl like that. What had happened to her at that moment? Lost in these thoughts, she headed home.
The next week, when Aishi went to class, she got to know a few people. She asked them about that girl and came to know that she was Isha Sengupta, the spoiled and ill-tempered daughter of the professor. Aishi thought to herself, "Isha… the name is really beautiful, just like her face."
Aishi noticed that Isha again sat in that same corner. This time, Aishi deliberately went and sat beside her. Seeing her, Isha said, "Again? You're sitting next to me again? Didn't you hear what I said last time?"
Isha grabbed Aishi's bag and threw it away. Aishi felt deeply hurt by such behavior. Tears welled up in her eyes. She picked up her bag and went to sit somewhere else. For the rest of the class, Aishi didn't look at Isha even once and left immediately after class.
The next week, Aishi saw that Isha didn't come to class. From her friends, she learned that Isha was heavily addicted to substances. She had fallen so ill because of it that she couldn't come. She used to go to nightclubs and parties regularly.
Aishi asked, "Doesn't her family say anything to her?"
One of her friends replied, "They've tried a lot, but nothing changed. Also, no one stays home all day. She lives alone most of the time and does whatever she wants. Everyone else is too busy with work. No one really has time for her."
Hearing this, Aishi felt very bad for Isha. A whole month passed, and Isha didn't come to class. Now Aishi's heart grew restless to see her once. She couldn't understand why she was feeling this way.
After a few months, Aishi's family left their rented house and moved to College Street. Due to the inconvenience of traveling to college and coaching classes, Sanjay Babu rented a place near the college.
Aishi still didn't know whose house they were moving into. As the car stopped in front of the house, Aishi looked at it and was shocked. It was that professor's house! But why were they here?
Aishi tried to make sense of it all in her mind, but she couldn't understand anything. She felt increasingly anxious.
She went to her mother and asked, "Ma, why are we here?"
Gita Devi replied, "Just wait, you'll see. Have some patience. Why are you in such a hurry? Stand quietly and don't be so restless."
