The evening air was soft and fragrant, carrying hints of jasmine from the nearby gardens.
I was sitting on the couch, scrolling lazily through my phone, when I heard Ethan's footsteps behind me.
"You look too serious for someone with coffee in hand," he said, leaning casually against the doorframe.
I looked up, smiling. "Just thinking… nothing important."
Ethan's grin spread mischievously. "Nothing important?" He walked over, tugging the blanket I was wrapped in. "Hmm… I think that calls for a distraction."
I raised an eyebrow. "A distraction?"
He knelt in front of me, brushing a stray lock of hair from my face. "Yes. One that involves you, me, and… a little bit of fun."
I couldn't help but laugh softly. "You're impossible."
"I know," he said, eyes twinkling. "But you love it."
He helped me up, leading me outside. The streetlights had just flickered on, casting a golden glow on the quiet neighborhood.
"Where are we going?" I asked, curiosity lacing my tone.
"You'll see," he replied, tugging me along, a hand warm and steady in mine.
We arrived at a small outdoor terrace, decorated with tiny lanterns and soft music floating from hidden speakers. A table was set for two, complete with candles and a small bouquet of flowers.
My heart skipped. "Ethan… this is beautiful!"
He smiled softly. "Only for you."
We spent the evening laughing over a simple dinner, teasing each other over every little thing—the way I twirled my spaghetti, how he almost spilled his drink, and the way our hands kept brushing, refusing to let go.
"I love you," he whispered, leaning across the table, his fingers brushing mine.
"I love you too," I replied, my voice soft. "More than I ever thought I could."
After dinner, we danced slowly under the soft glow of the lanterns, swaying to music only we could hear. Every brush of his hand, every whispered word, made my heart flutter uncontrollably.
Later, he held me close, forehead against mine. "Lara… I don't ever want this night to end."
"Neither do I," I murmured, resting my head against his chest.
As we sat in silence, the world seemed to pause around us. Lantern light flickered, the soft night air embraced us, and for the first time, everything felt perfect.
Maya's voice then came from behind a corner. "And here I thought you two couldn't get any more ridiculous!"
I laughed, and Ethan smirked. "We're just happy."
Maya shook her head, smiling, and walked away. "Fine. But don't forget, I still want my slice of cake!"
Ethan laughed softly, brushing his fingers along my cheek. "I'll save you a piece. But you're mine for tonight."
I rested my head on his shoulder, heart full, knowing that with him, every ordinary evening could turn extraordinary.
