Chapter 190 - A Familiar—The Euphoria Dragon

A familiar was a contracted creature that every mage could possess.

For an arcane spellcaster, there were few investments of time and money more worthwhile than a familiar.

A familiar was a mage's lifelong companion, guardian, scout, servant, confidant, and closest friend.

Every familiar could assist its master in countless useful ways—fetching small objects, spying from hidden corners, eavesdropping on conversations, standing watch while its master slept, and most importantly, forming a magical bond that allowed it to grow alongside its master.

The most basic familiars were ordinary creatures such as cats, owls, and toads.

In fact, the tradition of witches and wizards in the Harry Potter world keeping pets originated from their instinctive desire for familiars. Wizards and their pets did share an unusual level of understanding with one another.

Unfortunately, no one in this world had ever discovered a true method of forging a genuine familiar bond.

Beyond ordinary animals, powerful spellcasters sometimes chose small magical creatures as familiars.

Sprites, imps, quasits, bat-like magical beasts, pipe foxes, faerie dragons…

There was no shortage of ambitious mages trying to obtain stronger familiars.

Some had even developed methods of raising dragon hatchlings as familiars.

Lewis had always been capable of acquiring a familiar.

Not only would one assist him with daily life and magical research, it would also make an excellent pet.

But like the mages before him…

He simply couldn't bring himself to settle for an ordinary animal.

As for the magical creatures native to the Harry Potter world…

There really weren't many suitable choices.

House-elves, imps, and fairies were intelligent enough, but lacked especially useful magical abilities.

Augureys, Kneazles, and Nifflers all possessed unique talents, yet none of them could directly assist him with spellcasting.

As for Puffskeins…

Those were better suited as pets for wizarding children.

Now that he finally possessed a method of summoning a familiar from another world…

Lewis became excited.

"Let's see what kind of familiar is truly the most suitable for me."

He began casting the newly learned Summon Familiar spell.

After carefully studying the spell, he realized the summoned familiar wasn't completely random.

Additional spell components could influence the type of creature summoned.

For example…

If he wanted a creature from the Lower Planes, he could add infernal materials to the ritual.

If he preferred a more holy companion…

A feather from his own Couatl form would be an excellent catalyst.

Lewis's own choice, however…

Was a drop of Onyxia's blood.

He wanted to see whether he could summon a dragon hatchling as his familiar.

If that failed…

A faerie dragon would also be acceptable.

As magical power gathered…

A swirling portal opened before him.

Lewis could sense that the other end of the gateway wasn't connected to any stable world.

Instead…

It opened onto limitless chaos and endless planes.

This was the first…

No, technically the second time…

He had experienced the power capable of connecting countless worlds.

It couldn't help reminding him of his own transmigration.

Soon…

He felt the spell complete successfully.

The portal disappeared.

But…

Nothing stood where it had been.

"…?"

Had he just summoned…

Nothing?

No.

Through the magical connection formed during the casting process, Lewis clearly sensed that something had indeed crossed over from the other side.

Which meant…

Some unknown interference had caused the destination to shift.

His familiar had arrived somewhere else.

"…Why would something go wrong at a time like this?"

Lewis blamed himself.

Fortunately, he had chosen to perform the ritual inside his demiplane tower.

No matter how badly the destination had drifted…

It couldn't possibly leave the boundaries of the demiplane.

And with such limited space…

His familiar couldn't have wandered too far.

Leaving the laboratory, Lewis immediately began searching.

He followed the river that circled the demiplane.

He searched throughout the forest.

He even asked Lareth to help.

Eventually…

His search brought him beneath the great oak tree.

Then he heard a childish voice evaluating his demiplane.

"This place isn't bad."

"At least this tree is wonderful."

"But everything else is way too boring."

"A stone house."

"A perfectly ordinary forest."

"If only there were a fountain that sprayed jam…"

"Or maybe a chocolate tree."

"Then everyone passing by could simply snap off a branch for a snack!"

"…Who's talking?"

Lewis looked around in surprise.

Ever since awakening his psionic powers, almost nobody could approach him without being noticed beforehand.

"It was me."

A tiny purple dragon with iridescent wings floated out from behind him.

She clearly adored the idea of chocolate trees.

"A cute little dragon has been following you this whole time."

"Don't tell me you never noticed."

The moment Lewis saw the little creature…

He instantly realized where his summoned familiar had gone.

It had practically delivered itself to him.

"Well then, little dragon."

"If you've been following me all this time…"

"Why are you only speaking now?"

Since the other party was obviously still a child, Lewis naturally spoke in the same gentle tone.

"Maybe…"

"I'm a little shy."

"After all, we didn't know each other."

"And I also wanted to look around first."

"Everything in this different world is strange…"

"It's all so serious…"

"This demiplane is especially strange."

The little dragon voiced her opinions without the slightest restraint.

Lewis wasn't surprised.

After all…

She wasn't human.

Naturally, her perspective would differ.

"So…"

"You don't like it here?"

Lewis asked.

"It's not that I dislike it."

"I can still have lots of fun here."

"But I like my home in Elysium more."

The little dragon wrinkled her nose in an adorably exaggerated manner.

"But since I answered your summons…"

"This place is my home now too."

"We'll make it much more interesting together."

"Right?"

Looking into her hopeful eyes…

Lewis nodded.

"If we're going to be partners…"

"The first thing we should do is introduce ourselves."

"I'm Lewis Green."

"And what's your name, little dragon?"

The tiny dragon tilted her head before obediently answering.

"My name is Aiyu."

"Because I'm still little."

"The older our family members become…"

"The longer our names grow."

"Otherwise it'd be way too funny."

"Imagine hatching from your egg…"

"Only five years old…"

"And everyone's already calling you something like 'Resarablun' or 'Ilsuriak.'"

The little dragon snorted.

Lewis couldn't help laughing.

He hadn't expected dragons to have a naming system where names literally grew longer with age.

So…

This little dragon was only five years old.

For a dragon, that truly was the equivalent of early childhood.

"Then…"

"Where are you from?"

Lewis continued.

"Where am I from?"

"What do you mean?"

"I flew here."

Aiyu clearly misunderstood his question.

"Well…"

"I didn't fly across the really, really long river myself."

"But after crossing it…"

"I flew the rest of the way."

After saying that, she happily fluttered over to Lewis.

"You've always wanted a dragon of your own."

"Right?"

"Who wouldn't want a dragon as their partner?"

Lewis guessed that the "really, really long river" she mentioned referred to the chaotic void separating different planes.

There was no way a creature her size could cross such a place under its own power.

In fact…

Lewis couldn't imagine anything capable of physically flying between worlds.

As for her question…

His answer came without hesitation.

"If anyone says they don't want a dragon…"

"There's definitely something wrong with their brain."

After all…

Lewis Green had been an incurable dragon enthusiast since his previous life.

"I knew it!"

Aiyu immediately beamed with delight.

"I never doubted it!"

"If you hated dragons…"

"I wouldn't have wanted to be friends with you."

"But even if you were someone who hated dragons…"

"I'd still make you change your mind!"

What a confident little dragon.

But…

She had every right to be.

By now…

Lewis had already figured out her true identity.

Judging from her appearance…

And the fact that her home was Elysium…

The little dragon before him…

Was actually a Euphoria Dragon.
