Mira was awake and she was waiting for him. Leon stepped in and stopped for a second, as if grounding himself.
"Mira…" he began, his voice softer than usual. "I… I'm Leon."
A pause.
"Your husband."
She looked at him. Not scared. Just… confused and a little disbelieving.
"I'm telling the truth," he added quickly. "You can trust me." He reached into his jacket and pulled out the documents, placing them gently on her lap.
"See…"
She stared at them for a moment and then opened one.
she scanned the pages and suddenly... she laughed.
Leon blinked. Stunned.
"Wait…" she said between soft laughter, looking up at him. "Who in their right mind walks around carrying a marriage certificate?"
"Mira… you..." He stopped mid-sentence because he was still processing it.
Her laugh... It was the first time he had seen her like this. It was light, alive.
I trust you," she said, calming down, her smile still lingering. "Even Doctor Finn told me."
A pause.
"But…"
"But what??" Leon got anxious,
She tilted her head slightly, studying him.
"It's just that…" she said slowly, a playful glint in her eyes, "I can't believe I married such a handsome man... Oh my god!!!"
"Huh!!! You think I am handsome? for real..?" Leon was blushing.
She smiled.
"I feel happy… just looking at you. Even without my memories."
Her voice softened.
"I think… before the accident… I must have been really happy with you."
"Accident?" he repeated suddenly, catching onto her words.
She nodded. "When I asked the doctors, they said I had a head injury. So… I was in an accident, right?"
"Yes..." A plan brewed in Leon's mind.
"Mira…" he continued, his tone controlled now. "You had an accident. And the doctor advised me not to overwhelm you with too much information."
A small pause.
"So… let's talk about the details tomorrow."
"Not even the basics?" she asked, pouting slightly.
He shook his head.
"Hmmm… no."
"Ahhh, please…" she leaned forward slightly, her voice turning soft and pleading. "I won't be able to sleep if I have so many questions…"
Leon exhaled.
Defeated.
"Okay… just the basics."
Her face lit up.
"Thank you, Leo…" And just like that his cheeks turned pink.
"Your name is Mira Ashanmoore," he said. "And I'm Leon Deskmore."
She blinked.
"That's it?"
"Yes."
A faint smile. "The basics."
"Mmmm…" she pouted again.
Leon took a step toward her. Then another. Stopping just short.
"I'll go check with the doctors," he said quickly, almost escaping the moment. "Wait for me, okay?"
She raised her hand slightly, gesturing him closer.
He leaned in... closer... near her face.
She pressed a soft kiss against his cheek.
"Thank you," she whispered gently. "For being there for me."
A pause.
"I can feel your love."
Leon froze... completely. For a second, he didn't move.
Then suddenly he stepped back turned and walked out.
Faster than necessary because if he stayed... he wasn't sure what he would do next.
